My First note Event Participation 🔰 How to Turn "Ordinary Daily Life" into Work | Thoughts from Creative Award Winner Honoka Nagase, Interviewer: Yuki Ishikawa
I was invited to the venue and attended~
It was my first note event 🔰 Heart pounding 💓
Since what I am currently putting the most effort into is posting on
note my first interaction with other
noters was very fun and refreshing ✨️ It was a
valuable opportunity ◎
2024 Creative Award winner Nagase-san was naturally someone I was interested in (it is the
essay category after all!!), but actually, I have been listening to
Yupi (Yuki Ishikawa-san) on Voicy for about 3 years, so my goal was more Yupi-san~ 😍 Her laid-back vibe is irresistible 🫶 Yupi-san is also someone who became famous from posting on note
🌟
Contrary to her younger and cuter atmosphere than I imagined, I was thrilled by the way the dialogue flowed smoothly and quickly with questions typical of a professional
interview writer 🤩⚡️
Asking Honoka Nagase "How to write
essays that turn daily life into 'works of art'" (Interviewer:
Yuki Ishikawa-san)
It is also available on YouTube
Writing down only the parts I was able to catch on the day...
"Is it really worth going out of your way to write about?" Reprinted in one month Currently in its 5th printing ✋️ Amazing
The title is great too, isn't it? It is a word that
really hits home for essayists
Registered on note in 2019. The trigger was a lighthearted feeling of wanting to write something. Even for casual topics at an izakaya, she is a
memo demon. She diligently takes notes on episodes daily (not just keywords on her smartphone
, but recording them to a degree that she can understand when reading them back later)

Do you write after creating an outline?
Associate content that seems like it could be written together and
decide on a loose structure when determining the beginning and punchline

How do you incorporate a single message through character settings for the protagonist (characters) or how you deliver the punchline?
If you write it as is, it becomes a diary, so...
I recommend and am particular about including past episodes and flashback scenes.
For essays, be conscious that
there is a reader The
balance between a sense of conviction and a feeling of smooth flow.
Foreshadowing is also something I am conscious of.
Creating words ➡️ playing with words, coined words
Example: Rice puzzle🧩
(I re-read the winning work this morning, and
as expected, I feel the smoothness and the writing ability to make you read it all at once to the end.
The brilliance is incredible~😌⚡️)
What are you careful about when writing essays?
Writing about the movement of feelings and a different flow, objectivity is necessary.
Dialogue with an invisible someone write as if you are doing that.
Using yourself as a character or
looking at it from a bird's-eye view
the image of writing about your childhood
(it's you but not you, there is a temporal distance)
It becomes too explanatory what is the way to deal with this worry...?
Don't explain too much, hint at it
Tell it through episodes
be careful not to explain too much and adjust it.
The feelings of a third party should be stopped at 'it seems like...'
with a feeling like 'I don't know though'.
Essay = it doesn't have to be all true
I exaggerate a little.
Making it interesting = ultimate objectivity
think about the reason why it's interesting, the timing, relationships, facial expressions, etc.
The moment
trivial things, nuance (increase character count).
Daily life how to start writing...?
Dig deeper into things you always end up talking about.
When one thing isn't enough material, or when it lacks punch,
gather from the surroundings.
What is the criteria for choosing a topic...?
Take feelings of shock, anger, or sadness andconvert them into something funny
Look at various emotions from multiple perspectives
Talking about yourselftends to be = not interesting
What makes it lack interest is a tone that doesn't match the context
Either too wordy, not enough explanation, or too much explanation
Essays areself-narrativeat itsbest literary form
I don't want to force people to think a certain way, I just want them tolaughand I want them to think it's
interesting
If you don't go one step beyond the emotion, you often want empathy, but...?!
Even if you don't aim for it, 'empathy' is something that happens naturally
empathyis something that happens naturallyEveryone thinks it, they just
don't bother saying it
Tempois something to be conscious of (it differs between vertical and horizontal writing
Line breaks and the appearance of the text also change the impression
when published on the web versus in a printed book, even with the same content)
How do youpolishyour tempo...?
If you stumble while reading, it needs to be revised
Read it over and over again
Write it out roughly and then fix the fine details
Review it the next day
Cut and paste (rearrange the order)
Spend about half a day writing (including time spent just staring into space)
When was themomentyou found yournichefor comedy?
I wanted to write novels, but the article that
went viralwas anessayso I realized that path might be more suited for me
Things that got a laugh at a drinking party (talk about them)
Write with confidence and belief (ideas come while writing)
How much should you write about self-deprecation andnegativeemotions?
Think about sublimating them into material and using self-deprecating humor
to make people laugh
At first,everyone is unknown
It is recommended to have people who already know you read your work

About the time ofapplyingto the Creative Award
I read past winning works and messages from the judging companies, but
the overlap between my winning work and the initial Futabasha message
was only in very specific points, so
without being overly conscious of it
I thought, why not just write (freely)!?
3submissions ->1newlywritten work<- This one won the award 🎖️
The other two were past works I was confident in
It is important to write with the assumption that it will become a book📖✨️
Include content that shows your personality without it becoming a biography
Add it subtly
Like theimage of a lead track
on a music album, you don't need the whole chorus (too much)
Read it dozens of times
Have someone else read it once and subtract as well as add
What are the points to be careful about when writing about a third party...?
For content that the person themselves would understand is about them,
be prepared to take responsibilityeven if they read it
(If you can decline, try asking the person in advance)
Who are the essayists you respect??
