What the movie 'The Wind Rises' made me realize
Yesterday, I watched The Wind Rises for the first time in several years. Since I last saw it when I was probably a university student, this was my second time watching it, so before I started, my memory of it was vague, just that it was a 'very interesting movie'.
Upon watching it again, there were, needless to say, many rediscoveries and renewed appreciations for the story, but what I want to record here is the 'realization' I gained from the protagonist's way of life.
1. Loving and cherishing the person you love with all your might
2. Focusing on your work and dedicating yourself to it completely
It is the simplicity of living by pouring all of one's resources and energy into these two things. And in both cases, the way he chooses is intuitive, honest, and unwavering. It is extremely simple.
While this may seem obvious, sadly, I have not been able to do it at all. No, I think it is generally difficult in modern society. Of course, not for everyone, but in a social structure where information overload, an excess of choices, and constant comparison are the norm, it is easy to lose sight of one's 'intuition' and 'what one wants to do.' Furthermore, there are many opportunities to doubt what you have chosen, wondering, 'Is this really okay?' There are various life stage changes such as entrance exams, job hunting, changing jobs, marriage, and finding a place to live, and every time I see people taking different paths, I stop and think. And then my thoughts go in circles, wondering if this was the right choice or if there were other options.
At the very least, as a member of Gen Z, I have experienced this crisis several times.
These are the perspectives I lose sight of in my daily life, and the necessary questions to ask.
What is truly important to me, what is an ideal way of life, and what is a beautiful way of life?
The simple way of life I saw in the movie: 'Love the person who is important to you, and pour all your energy into the work that draws your heart so that you can live with that person.'
If you are properly focused, your direction and vision remain clear. No wasted actions or unnecessary emotions are born. Perhaps this is the shortest path to 'happiness'.
It was the way of life of Jiro Horikoshi in the movie 'The Wind Rises' that made me realize this.
