Before I started building my own home,
I had this much awareness:
"I guess it's the carpenters who build the house?"As I actually went through the process of building a house,
I learned that more people than I imagined
are involved until a single house is completed.

As I started building my home,

and we were gradually working out the details.

・I'll introduce you to a few companies,
so please go and take a look in person.
At the time, I thought,
Huh? Isn't it decided only by the housing manufacturer?
Honestly,
I didn't even know there were companies specializing in plumbing,
or that I could actually go to a showroom
and choose things myself.
Without really understanding,
I remember going around to the introduced companies
and looking at kitchens, baths, vanity units, etc.
After visiting the plumbing companies,
the bath, kitchen, toilet, etc.
started to be decided little by little.
At the time,
I thought, "Is this mostly decided now?"
Then, the next thing was,
Please go around to interior design companies
because we want to decide on wallpaper and curtains.My wife and I looked at each other
I see! Next is the interior.
and we couldn't help but laugh.
Until I started building a house,
I thought that if I just had meetings
with the person in charge at the housing manufacturer,
the house would be completed.But in reality,
plumbing,
interior,
electricity,
exterior, etc.
specialists appeared one after another.
Each time,I remember being surprised, "Are there still more!?"

After repeated meetings,
the floor plan and equipment were gradually decided,
and it was finally time for the home building
to begin.
The first thing we did was the Jichinsai (ground-breaking ceremony).
It seems that more people are not doing it these days,
but for our family,
it is an important place where we will live for a long time.

With such thoughts,
we asked a local Shinto priest.
On the day, starting with the priest,
the person in charge from the housing manufacturer and
related parties also participated.
It was the moment I felt that the home building
we had been discussing was finally starting to move as a reality.
And when the construction began,
I learned that more people than we imagined
were involved in the home building.

👥 Occupations appearing one after another
The ground-breaking ceremony ended safely,
and we finally welcomed the day of the ridge-raising.
It is an important day when the house we had seen in drawings
actually takes shape.
On the day,
・Carpenters
・Foundation workers
・Scaffolding workers
・Large crane operators
and many others had gathered.
Each understood their own role
and proceeded with the work while calling out to each other.
Honestly,
"I was surprised that so many people were involved."
And what surprised me even more was
that the place which only had a foundation in the morning
had taken the shape of a house by the evening.
I was surprised by the speed of home building,
but there is something that left an even greater impression.

That is, the head carpenter was
the father of a classmate
from my junior high school days.

whenever we had a day off,
we would go to the site,
bring refreshments,
and go to see how things were going.
I often talked with the head carpenter.
During that time,
・It's windy around here, so it's better to increase the strength a little.
・To make it resistant to earthquakes,
I'll put pillars diagonally in this part.

He taught me many things
that you can't understand just from the drawings.
Also,
when my wife consulted him about wanting to make the pantry opening
oval-shaped,
he actually made a prototype
and let us check the image,
so he was really kind and helpful.
Seeing that,
I felt that home building is not just about
proceeding according to the drawings,
but it is something that takes shape
while thinking about the family living there,
with the experience and thoughts of each craftsman added.

The home building was in its final stages,
and the shape where we could live
was gradually becoming visible.
Thinking, "I guess it's almost finished,"
I looked at the schedule,
and next were
・Electrical work
・Plumbing work
・Interior work
・Exterior wall work
etc.
There were still many processes left.
Honestly,
I remember thinking, "There's still this much left."
By that time,
we ourselves
might have become members of the home building team.
From the electrical worker,
"Where are you planning to put the TV?"
"It would be convenient to have an outlet here too."
"This place looks like it might be a bit dark,
so it might be better to add lighting."
etc.
I received a lot of advice
while imagining our actual life.
The architect,
the craftsmen,
and our family.
While everyone consulted with each other,
I think we gradually shaped
our ideal home.
Looking back,
home building can never be done alone.
The sales representative,
the architect,the carpenter,
the craftsmen,
and the family.
Each of their thoughts, experiences,and skills gather,
and finally one house is completed.
That is why I
feel that home building was a "team sport."

What I felt after experiencing home building is
that one house is really made by many people
being involved.
The sales representative, the architect, the carpenter,
the electrical and plumbing contractors.

understand the characteristics of the land, the climate,
and what kind of home building suits the region well.
Furthermore,
there are connections between the contractors,
and I also felt a relationship of
"helping each other when in trouble."
