To you who have the 'desire' to do something but cannot take action
I want to try something new!
I want to reskill and expand my opportunities!
I want to increase my income!
When you have the desire to do these things, but
you cannot take action.
You might find yourself thinking,
・Maybe I have a weak will
・Maybe I lack determination
・Maybe it's impossible for me after all
You have those feelings sometimes, don't you?
However, when you are unable to move,
multiple feelings might be moving at the same time,
and you might just be
wavering like a balance toy.
A person's heart
is not always made up of
just one feeling.
This time,
let's look at what is happening inside your heart
when you have the desire to do something but cannot take action.
▶Multiple feelings exist at the same time
While we desire something, we can sometimes
harbor conflicting feelings.
For example,
・I want to try it
・But, I'm scared
・I want to move forward
・But, I don't want to fail
・I want to change
・But, I also want to protect my current comfort
First, I want you to feel at ease knowing that
these feelings
do not mean that either one is wrong.
Both are natural reactions.
And both are your true feelings.
▶The heart stops to find balance
When your feelings are directed in only one direction, people find it easier to move.
It is a method often used in coaching and the like, but by envisioning an 'ideal future' with a sense of reality, you take actions toward that future 'now'.
Goal setting is the same, isn't it? You decide on a goal, set tasks to move toward it by the shortest distance, and proceed in small steps.
This is a powerful technique for not losing sight of a single 'direction'.
However, when multiple feelings are moving at the same time, the heart may stop to try and balance them out.
Stopping is not because you cannot move forward, nor is it because you cannot decide.
It might be because you are in the middle of trying to get things in order.
It is my own image, but it is like when you are climbing a spiral staircase.
If there is a window in one direction, it feels like the same scenery continues for a while.
But in reality, your height is changing little by little, isn't it?
I feel that the time when your heart wavers and you feel like you have stopped is a bit similar to that.
▶You don't have to try to erase either one
When I stopped, there were times when I would think, 'Which one is my true feeling?'
But 'wanting to do it' and 'being afraid' are not a matter of one being more correct than the other.
For example,
the feeling of 'wanting to do' is
a power directed toward the future, saying 'let's make it better!'
The feeling of 'being afraid' is
a power that can be said to be based on the anxiety
that the present might be destroyed.
Both are important workings of power.
And it is 'the current you'
who is feeling both of them.
There are, of course,
situations where you need the strength
to charge ahead while carrying anxiety.
But that can also become a habit
of putting your own heart second.
That is precisely why,
when you think 'I'm scared,'
I want you to first observe that you felt 'scared'
without denying it.
Like, 'I see, I am feeling scared.'
And then,
I want you to start thinking about
what you can do to lighten that fear.
▶ Questions to ask when you are wavering
'I want to move forward, but I can't.'
When you have that feeling,
please try asking yourself these questions.
・What feelings are working at the same time?
・Where does the desire to move forward come from?
・What is the desire to stop trying to protect?
Instead of erasing one or the other,
it is enough to just lay both of them out side by side first.
The way you see what you were thinking
will change a little.
▶ Time spent wavering is also meaningful time
When your feelings are wavering,
you might feel like you aren't moving forward.
However, the time you spend wavering is often
more than just time spent being indecisive;
it is often 'time spent confirming things'.
You might be in the middle of
trying to find your balance while confirming things.
I hope this article
will be of some help when you are struggling
with wanting to move forward but being unable to.
