Incorporating Yoga into Schools Improves Psychological Symptoms and Enhances Cognitive Function. #18
I am a science-minded mom raising a 4-year-old son (ASD) and a 2-year-old daughter. My dream has come true, and I am now able to offer yoga at a developmental support facility.
Thank you for visiting! 😊
Yoga and Meditation and Developmental Disabilities research is being featured.
Introduction
As a yoga and meditation instructor who loves researching academic papers, I am summarizing research papers on yoga, meditation, and developmental disabilities in an easy-to-understand way for you.
In Japan, the effects of yoga and meditation on developmental disabilities are still only introduced to a limited extent, with general views such as it is good for mental stability.
However, when reading overseas literature, it is suggested that it has a wide range of effects on the specific challenges of ASD and ADHD.
I will introduce each piece of literature one by one, aiming to create a place like a library of literature on yoga and developmental disabilities.

◆ Results of school-based yoga...
Now, onto the main topic. Today, I am introducing a study conducted in Sweden (published in 2024). *I have introduced Swedish research before, haven't I? ▼
This study is a review paper, which is a document that collects, organizes, and analyzes the contents of various documents.
① Subjects
16 documents from the past 10 years involving over 1,000 children and adolescents aged 5 to 19
② What were the results?
Five effects of yoga were demonstrated.
Alleviation of depression and anxiety
Improvement in self-control and reduction in problem behaviors
Improvement in cognitive function
Improvement in relaxation ability (better sleep, stress relief)
Increase in well-being
◆ A little more detail
According to reviewed studies, it has been consistently shown that practicing yoga changes brain structure.
It is said that gray matter volume increases, and the prefrontal cortex in particular is activated.
Since the prefrontal cortex plays an important role in emotional regulation and decision-making, effects such as improved self-control and improved cognitive function can be expected.
◆ A word from Rikejo Mama
So, I have introduced literature summarizing the effects of yoga on children.
This is an analysis of data from a total of over 1,000 children. This includes children with ADHD, ASD, and intellectual disabilities.
Yoga can be expected to improve academic performance and executive function by alleviating mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, attention problems, and impulsivity.
Furthermore, by increasing self-control and enabling emotional regulation, stress is reduced... and it was concluded that this leads to happiness and satisfaction in life in the long run.
I believe it is unfortunate for a child to be in a situation where they cannot focus on what they really want to do because they are being swayed by their emotions and impulses...💦
That is precisely why I believe that teaching mental management techniques from a young age is a lifelong benefit for the child. Yoga is one such technique.
With that, I introduce evidence on Developmental Disorders x Yoga/Meditation every week. To find other papers, click here ▼
I also take on work such as article writing based on these research results.

If you would like to support this activity, I would appreciate it if you could do so within your means via a "tip," subscribing to Magazine Wagan, or requesting work🙇♀️
Once again,
I hope that even one fewer child will be labeled as "someone who can't do X," "a problem child," or "a difficult child."
I sincerely hope this summary is helpful.
Thank you for your support.
