For those who want to 'make their passion their job'—The art of coexisting with the 'things you hate' that those who keep going practice
When the numbers don't move,
your heart wavers, doesn't it?
“I’m writing so much, yet…”
“Maybe this just isn't for me after all…”
Haven't you ever felt that way?
I was the same way at first.
Even though I love writing, my motivation would instantly wither away when I didn't see results.
But as I kept going, I realized this—
to keep doing what you love, there will always come a moment when you have to face the 'things you hate' as well.
I love writing articles.
But I don't necessarily love the effort required to get them read.
Studying marketing or strategy, designing psychological triggers…
fields that are 'unknown' or 'weaknesses' stand in your way.
I think people generally fall into one of four types when this happens.
1. The enduring, persevering type
People who endure even though they dislike it, thinking, “If I quit now, everything will be a waste.”
They have the strength to keep going, but their hearts are constantly being drained.
Especially for those who are already enduring similar things in their main job, it's easy to push themselves too hard in their side hustle.
This type is also prone to ending up in a state of 'I tried my best but I'm burned out' after six months to a year.
2. The type who enjoys the challenge
This is probably where I am.
The type who can incorporate weaknesses as a 'new game'.
If you think of marketing and strategy as all part of 'finding the mechanism,' it's surprisingly fun.
Even if the numbers don't go up, I feel a small sense of excitement in thinking, “What could be the cause?” (And when you realize, “Well, it’s Obon, of course no one is reading!” your heart feels lighter, too.)
When you make your 'passion' your job, it feels more like your 'passion' is growing.
That’s why skills naturally pile up (or so I’d like to believe).
3. The type who keeps it safe
They don't like it, but they do the bare minimum required.
There’s no flashy growth, but the burden is low.
This style is suited for those who want to continue at their own pace.
However, you need the mental fortitude not to get anxious when looking at the growth speed of those around you.
(Maybe it’s best to just not look at social media, as it’s a source of anxiety!)
4. The type who hits a weakness and quits
The “I only want to do what I love” crowd.
The moment a weakness appears in front of them, their enthusiasm drops and they stop.
There is less stress, but it’s hard to get results.
I wonder if it’s difficult to make it a job.
But if you want to keep it as a hobby that you love, this choice is totally fine.
It’s okay to go at your own pace
The important thing is that there is no single 'correct' type.
Precisely because it's a side hustle, it's not necessarily essential to 'coexist with what you dislike'.
If you are currently tired of doing things you aren't used to, you don't have to make endurance a virtue.
'Continuing through suffering' is one strategy, but it might not fit your lifestyle.
If someone who already endures enough at their main job turns their side hustle into a battle of endurance, it's bound to get exhaustingy'know.
So, it's perfectly fine to just deal with it safely, leave it to someone who is good at it or to AI, or decide not to do it at all.
At first, I used to avoid articles that looked like they were 'dumped onto AI,' but I feel a bit differently now.
They likely have their own circumstances and priorities for doing so.
In the midst of a busy daily life, they might be managing to keep going by squeezing out just 10 minutes—it could be that kind of ingenuity.
The way we protect ourselves is different for everyone, isn't it?.
Is that way of doing things really making you happy?
To keep doing what you 'love,' you don't have to love everything about it.
You can choose your own distance from the things you're not good at.
Enduring and pushing through, turning it into a game, getting by with the bare minimum, or just quitting—it's all okay.
As long as you find a way that suits you, that 'passion' will surely last a long time.
That is precisely why I want you to cherish yourself.
Is that method something you want to do even at the cost of what is precious to you?
Always put your hand on your heart and think about it.
Well then, goodnight. See you tomorrow.
Thank you for reading until the end😊
If you 'like' or 'follow' me, I will conveniently interpret it as:
・Maybe they were pushing themselves a bit
・Maybe they are someone who wants to do their best at their own pace
・Maybe they empathized with me
and I will be happy✨
I'll go read your articles too🏃♀️
Don't you think Note is like a dining table serving home-cooked meals? Maybe not being too uptight is the secret to keeping it up.
Using AI to reduce the burden is also really great. Just be careful, because it can be off-base without you realizing it.
Even if there is no reaction, I always write with the intention of delivering it to future readers.
Let's take it easy and do our best even in the sweltering summer.
