ゆきちゃんが 思いっきりブランコを漕いでいる。
隣りのまあちゃんも負けていない。
五月の空は青く晴れて
二人はまるで空を飛んでいるような気分だった。
遠くでは、ボール遊びをするにぎやかな声がする。
入学式から一ヶ月が過ぎた山の学校では
わずかな休憩時間でも子供たちは、夢中になって遊んでいる。
やがて カラン カランと 三時間目を告げる鐘が鳴った。
「もう一回！」
ゆきちゃんは力一杯漕いで、やっとブランコを止めて地面に降り立った。
と、その時 異変が起こった。
あれっと思った瞬間
ゆきちゃんのスカートの中から ポタポタとしずくが流れ出す。
「あっ…」
固まって泣き出したゆきちゃんに、まあちゃんが驚いて、先生を呼びに職員室へ走って行った。
「先生 ゆきちゃんが…」
急いでやって来た女先生は
「あら あら」とにっこり笑い
「大丈夫ですよ。みんなに教科書を読んで待ってるように言ってね」と
まあちゃんを教室に返した。
それから、ゆきちゃんの手を引いて
学校のそばにあるたった一軒の民家の井戸に向かった。
この民家は、近くの畑で野菜を作りながら
子供達が使う文房具を売るお店もやっていて
じいちゃんや、小さい子供も暮らしている。
先生は、奥さんに声をかけてタオルを借りると
井戸端でゆきちゃんの下着を脱がせて、きれいにしてくれた。
奥さんが「ちょっと大きいけど」と
子供用の替えパンツを手にやって来る。
「ほら、もう大丈夫
だぁれも知らない せんせいとゆきちゃんのナイショ」
そう言って、まだベソをかいているゆきちゃんの頭をなでると
「ほんとに？」
やっと元気になって、ゆきちゃんは先生といっしょに教室に戻って行った。
その日の夕方、学校から帰ったゆきちゃんが
ランドセルから取り出して
「せんせいがこれ…」とおずおず渡した小さな包みには
生乾きのパンツが入っていた。
先生のきれいな文字で事情を書いた手紙も添えてある。
それを読みながら
母さんは「そないに、ブランコが面白かったのかい？」と笑った。
「うん…」
「そうかい。そいでも、おしっこは早めに行かなあかんよ」
と優しく言った。
「うん、わかった」
それ以来 ゆきちゃんが失敗する事はなかった。

Crazy about the swings
Yuki-chan is swinging as hard as she can.
Maa-chan next to her is not losing either.
The May sky is clear and blue,
and the two of them feel as if they are flying through the sky.
In the distance, there are lively voices of children playing with a ball.
At the mountain school, a month after the entrance ceremony,
the children are absorbed in playing even during their short breaks.
Before long, the bell rang, clanging to signal the third period.
"One more time!"
Yuki-chan pumped with all her might, finally stopped the swing, and stepped onto the ground.
And then, something unusual happened.
The moment she thought, "Huh?"
drops began to trickle down from inside Yuki-chan's skirt.
"Oh..."
Yuki-chan froze and started to cry, and Maa-chan, surprised, ran to the staff room to call the teacher.
"Teacher, Yuki-chan is..."
The female teacher hurried over,
smiled gently, and said, "Oh my."
"It's okay. Tell everyone to read their textbooks and wait," she said,
and sent Maa-chan back to the classroom.
Then, she took Yuki-chan by the hand
and headed toward the well at the only private house near the school.
This house grows vegetables in a nearby field,
runs a shop selling stationery for the children,
and is home to a grandfather and small children.
The teacher called out to the woman of the house to borrow a towel,
then took off Yuki-chan's underwear by the well and cleaned her up.
The woman came over with a spare pair of children's underwear,
saying, "It's a little big, but..."
"There, it's all okay now.
It's a secret between the teacher and Yuki-chan that no one else knows."
Saying that, she patted Yuki-chan on the head, who was still sobbing,
"Really?"
Finally feeling better, Yuki-chan went back to the classroom with the teacher.
That evening, when Yuki-chan came home from school,
she took out from her school bag
a small package she timidly handed over, saying, "The teacher gave me this..."
Inside was a pair of damp underwear.
A note written in the teacher's beautiful handwriting explaining the situation was also included.
While reading it,
Mother laughed and asked, "Were the swings that much fun?"
"Yeah..."
"I see. But you still need to go to the bathroom early, okay?"
she said gently.
"Yeah, I understand."
Since then, Yuki-chan never had another accident.
