Clear sock marks by evening. A 3-minute care routine to try on days when you feel leg swelling
Shoes that fit normally in the morning feel a little tight by the evening.
When you take off your socks, there are clear marks left around your ankles.
Your calves feel heavy, and when you press them with your fingers, they feel more swollen than usual.
Do you have days like that?
When people are concerned about leg swelling, some immediately want to massage them firmly.
However, there is no need to press with force from the start.
On days when you have been sitting for a long time or standing continuously, you have fewer opportunities to move your ankles and calves. My recommendation is to try moving them within a comfortable range rather than applying strong stimulation first.
I will introduce a 3-minute care routine you can do while sitting in a chair.
For the first minute, move your ankles.
With both soles of your feet on the floor and your heels kept on the floor, slowly lift and lower your toes.
Next, with your toes on the floor, lift and lower your heels.
Do this about 10 times, alternating sides.
There is no need to move quickly. Continue at a comfortable pace while feeling how your ankles and calves are moving.
The next minute is for your toes.
Take off your shoes, curl your toes as if making a light fist, and then relax them.
You don't have to try hard to spread your toes wide.
Move them as if to bring your awareness back to your toes, which you don't usually think about, reminding yourself that 'my body is here too'.
The final minute is to rest your legs.
Place your legs on a chair or cushion and find a comfortable position.
It doesn't have to be raised very high. A height where your lower back and knees don't feel strained and you can relax your legs is sufficient.
Just as you are, feel the weight of your calves and the temperature of your toes.
You don't have to judge your progress solely by whether the sock marks have disappeared before and after the care.
Your ankles feel easier to move.
The weight feels a little different when you stand.
You have become more aware of your toes.
Please look for such small changes as well.
When you can feel the changes yourself, it becomes easier to choose the amount of stimulation that suits you, rather than thinking, 'I must do it harder.'
However, there are various causes for swelling.
Is it in both legs, or just one side?
Did it appear suddenly, or has it been ongoing for some time?
Check for pain, heat, or redness.
Check if it is accompanied by shortness of breath or chest pain.
Please be sure to check these points.
If you experience swelling in only one leg for no apparent reason, sudden severe swelling, or swelling accompanied by pain, heat, or redness, prioritize consulting a medical institution over self-care. If you experience shortness of breath, chest pain, or a feeling of fainting, prompt medical attention is required.
If there is no change after a few days of self-care, if it is worsening, or if it is interfering with your daily life, please get it checked out.
When your legs are swollen, do not immediately massage them strongly. Instead, gently move them for just 3 minutes first and compare how they feel before and after.
Tonight, try starting by moving your toes and heels alternately.
This time, I focused on the physical perspective of 'leg swelling.' Your actual condition varies depending on your constitution, underlying illnesses, medications, work, exercise level, sleep, and living environment. In my treatments, I do not make conclusions based solely on the body; I approach it from various angles, including emotions, thoughts, and energy.

For those whose legs feel heavy by evening and who are unsure how much they should move them: I will ask about your physical condition and lifestyle, and provide treatment with the level of stimulation your body can accept that day.
