💟 Biography of Yoshimasa Miura 56, Establishment of the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute (Dojo)
🎀 Kushiro Philosophy Research Note No. 178
1. Establishment of the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute (Dojo)
On November 23, 1958, the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute and the Kokoku Calligraphy Training Association dojo were established on the land adjacent to 37 Suwabayashi, Ichida-cho, Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture.
"Virtue is not left to stand alone." This modest dojo and residence was dedicated to Yoshimasa Miura and his family by his disciples, who were moved by the way he worked desperately for the sake of the nation and the world.

Yoshimasa Miura in his later years giving a lecture on Kamikaze Kushiro while laying out a 1:200,000 scale map, around 1970, at the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute. He is not sitting in the seat of honor because the direction the Emperor faces is determined by the time of day, and if this is not strictly observed, fires or accidents will inevitably occur.
November 23 was chosen as the dojo's founding anniversary because it is the Niiname-sai (Labor Thanksgiving Day) and also the anniversary of the death of the immortal Daigendo Shiyo-dojin of Mt. Butsugadake in Tosa.
The purpose, rules, and training guidelines of the dojo are almost identical to those of the Chubu National Dojo.
Dojo Purpose
The expansion of the heavenly task of proclaiming the Imperial Way to the world is the national policy of Imperial Japan, and the support of this great transformation is the mission of the subjects of the Imperial Nation. We must reverently participate in the creation by the Imperial Ancestors and Heavenly Gods, clarify the fundamentals of governing the nation, study the essential ways of governance, and thereby respond to the imperial edicts of the Imperial Ancestors and Heavenly Gods.
Therefore, loyal subjects without a second heart have gathered here, and having directly visited the Heavenly Sun-Successor of the Amaterasu Omikami, the Hachiman Great Bodhisattva, Yoshimasa Miura, we have established the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute and the Kokoku Calligraphy Training Association dojo to first cultivate the righteous spirit of the Divine Land and to promote the true meaning of the Imperial Way.
In other words, we shall pour out our hearts to gather heroes, cultivate wise men of sincere and loyal spirits without a second heart, point directly to the source of the heart inherited from our ancestors, and bear witness to the immortal spirit of the Divine Land. This is a firm oath of one sovereign and ten thousand people serving without selfishness, and is not a matter of trivial private affairs.
The above is the purpose.
November 23, 2618 (Imperial Calendar)
Dojo Rules
1. There is only the Great Cause; there must be no shred of selfishness.
1. The distinction between senior and junior must not be mistaken.
1. One must embody the trinity of mutual aid, mutual discipline, and mutual tolerance, and thereby cultivate the spirit of collective autonomy.
Training Guidelines
1. The establishment of a determined heart is the foundation of the path. First, one must set a great vow to establish the Divine Nation on earth.
1. Training in practical affairs is the essence of the path. One must practice the Way through calligraphy and conduct, tempering oneself a hundred times in the unity of the Way and method.
1. The unification of the hearts of the masses is the conclusion of the path. One should practice mutual aid, mutual discipline, and mutual tolerance to set a model for autonomy.
2. About the Kokoku Calligraphy Training Association
From his twenties, Yoshimasa Miura studied Daishi-style calligraphy (also known as Hitsuzendo, or the Way of Brush Zen) under Master Seido Yokoyama (the old man Tenkei Yokoyama).

Tenkei Yokoyama(1882–1966)
Seeking the source of calligraphy, the old man Tenkei Yokoyama, who dedicated his eighty-plus years of life to calligraphy and Zen, valued the ink spirit and state of mind in calligraphy, and advocated and practiced the Way of Brush Zen. The figure of the old man, who sought the Way in simple poverty without pandering to the world, had the air of a "calligraphy immortal."
The lineage of Master Seido Yokoyama is a school of calligraphy passed down from Kobo Daishi, where half-monk, half-lay people have inherited the role of master for generations. It is called the Way of Brush Zen and is a form of calligraphy with significant elements of spiritual cultivation. A fellow practitioner who trained with Yoshimasa is Mr. "Sogen Omori".
Yoshimasa and Mr. Omori were the two best students under Yokoyama. The characteristics of their calligraphy styles, as evaluated by Master Yokoyama, were peerless clarity (Yoshimasa) and magnificent spirit (Mr. Omori). After agonizing so much that he spent sleepless nights, Master Yokoyama concluded that the future potential as a master lay with Yoshimasa.
After the war, Yoshimasa was designated as the successor to Yokoyama Tenkei-o and received a directory (scroll) of the successors of the Hitsuzen-do school, but he returned it, stating that an Emperor cannot accept items from a subject.
Yoshimasa independently presided over the "Meitoku-ryu Kokoku Calligraphy Training Association" and provided instruction in Hitsuzen-do, commonly known as the "Hitsuzen-kai," but he also joined the school of Yokoyama Tenkei-o and received correction guidance from Master Yokoyama along with other students.
The 'Meitoku' in Meitoku-ryu Calligraphy was taken from the mortuary tablet of Emperor Matsura, 'Meikoin Seitoku Daishi,' and the 'Kokoku' in Kokoku Calligraphy Training Association was taken from Emperor Kokoku.

The method of the Hitsuzen-kai, which Yoshimasa taught, involved writing 2 to 5 characters on a half-sheet of calligraphy paper using a large brush. For each character, one would take a deep breath, sink it into the lower abdomen, hold the breath while finishing the character, and then move on to the next.
Because people were writing while seriously holding their breath, some would faint during the calligraphy practice. It seems it also served as a health method for cultivating the Dantian.

*Column: A Story Only Told Here in Choseishi
Regarding Yoshimasa's training in Hitsuzen-do, he stated that he was only able to receive a passing grade after being drafted into the China Incident and returning after dodging bullets.
The directory of Hitsuzen-do successors (a scroll about 20 cm in diameter) that Yoshimasa Miura received from Yokoyama Tenkei-o reportedly listed Emperor Saga, not Kobo Daishi Kukai, as the founder of Hitsuzen-do.
Of course, only God knows whether this scroll is truly a directory of Hitsuzen-do masters inherited from the Heian period.
3. Kamikaze Kushiro of the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute (Dojo)
Many Kamikaze Kushiro of the Kamikaze Kushiro Research Institute (which served as both a dojo and Yoshimasa Miura's residence in his later years) have been deciphered. The following is one example.

🟡To all our readers!
[Kamikaze Kushiro] is a visible revelation bestowed upon the Japanese people by the ancestral deity Amaterasu Omikami, and it is the 'Word of God' that has appeared before us now, transcending two thousand years of time.
I sincerely appreciate the connection with you who have arrived at this page. This article conveys the essence of the "Kushiro Philosophy (Kamikaze Kushiro)" founded by Master Yoshimasa Miura, the legitimate imperial descendant of the Divine Imperial Lineage, who embodied the divine will of Amaterasu Omikami and was sent to this earth.
As revealed in "A Two-Thousand-Year History of Avoiding Divinity: Messages from the Imperial Ancestral Deities," if our nation wishes to inherit into the future a "monarchy that looks up to the Emperor as the symbol of Japan and the unity of the Japanese people," we must choose the path that follows the divine will of the Imperial Ancestral Deities. Otherwise, we will continue to face the crisis of resigning ourselves to the rule of foreign peoples and losing the inherent dignity and characteristics of the Japanese people.
The path that the Japanese people should take is clearly indicated in Kamikaze Kushiro. Now is the time to awaken to the truth and return to the divine will. Please cooperate in spreading this information so that it reaches as many people as possible.
Why has Amaterasu Omikami spent such a long time constructing Kamikaze Kushiro and honoring the Divine Imperial Lineage? By sincerely facing this question and learning the core of the Kushiro Philosophy, the primary duty we must perform now becomes clear. That is where the regeneration and future of the Japanese people depend.
Kamikaze Kushiro, and the Divine Imperial Lineage shown therein, are the foundation of the soul of the Japanese people and an irreplaceable treasure. I sincerely hope that the heart of Amaterasu Omikami, who spent two thousand years building Kamikaze Kushiro, and the hardships of Master Yoshimasa Miura, who risked his life to reveal its truth, will now become the foundation for the happiness of Japan and its people.

I sincerely thank you that all humanity across the world is healthy, energetic, bright, prosperous, happy, and spending peaceful days, walking the path of spiritual improvement, fulfilling the mission for which they were born into this world, and contributing to the evolution and development of the great universe.
