Words that slipped out during an elementary school play

The other day, I took my friend's elementary school-aged children to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. During lunch, they told me this:

'We're going to perform Momotaro at our school play soon!'

They happily told me about their roles. I couldn't help but imagine the scene of picking up a peach floating down a river, and I listened with excitement.

The words just slipped out of my mouth.
'Pick up the peach!'

At the time, I only meant it as a cheer, but I would later think deeply about the meaning behind these words.

Just as the story wouldn't progress if the old woman doing laundry didn't pick up the peach, I wonder if there are many people whose life stories don't progress because they don't pick up their own peaches.

We now live in a world surrounded by a vast river of information. Television, newspapers, social media, the internet, conversations with friends... information is flowing everywhere.

Just as real rivers like the Tone River or the Tama River have their own characteristics, rivers of information also have characteristics, and their content and reliability vary. Just as the credibility differs between a high-impact factor academic paper and a weekly tabloid that only writes gossip.
