The 'Deep Dive into English' for the Disney movie 'Big Hero 6' is complete!
Big Hero 6 - I'm not really interested in action movies, so I didn't have high expectations before watching it, but after watching it, it was a movie that really touched my heart.
In particular, the feelings Hiro has for his brother Tadashi, and the feelings Tadashi has for his younger brother Hiro - the depth of that brotherly love filled my heart.
Also, the protagonist's name is 'Hiro', and his older brother is 'Tadashi', and Japanese names like 'Wasabi' and 'Yama' appear, so it felt very familiar.
Just like the previous 'Inside Out', 'Big Hero 6' was also 'packed with useful English' and I couldn't really move on to the next part. It felt like, 'When will this ever end...'
But that just means there are many English expressions that catch the eye, so every time I encountered such 'useful English', a sense of excitement welled up inside me.
The difference from when I 'deep-dived' into 'Inside Out' is that this time I 'watched the scenes I picked up over and over again'. The goal was 'to burn each scene into my memory'.
And for the scenes I rewatched, I made sure to rewatch not only the ones I picked up at that time, but also scenes I had picked up previously at random. Then, I checked how well the English had stuck.
For parts that were particularly hard to hear, I rewatched them repeatedly, and tried to memorize not just the lines, but also 'the movements and gestures of the characters' who said those lines.
And what I realized painfully was,
'Lines' + 'Movements/Gestures' = 'English Retention'
is the equation.
I have touched upon this equation from time to time, but I feel it is such an important element for English learning that it is worth mentioning again and again.
To tell the truth, I didn't watch many foreign films before starting this note. But with starting this note as a trigger, I began watching foreign films, especially Disney movies. The one that provided that trigger was definitely 'Coco'.
Therefore, until now, my English learning was 'focused on text and audio', but 'since starting this note, 'movement' has been added to that.
Then, I began to feel firsthand that the retention rate of English was clearly increasing. Moreover, by watching the same scene carefully while also focusing on the 'movement', 'the lines became burned into my mind along with the movements.
For this 'Big Hero 6', I studied with the awareness of focusing on 'repeated viewing'. It takes time, but 'I was always there, immersed in the response'.
It was truly rewarding. I should have realized this method sooner. But since I always approach English learning with the feeling of starting from zero, I want to continue searching for even better learning methods while I study.
From next time, I will continue the 'deep dive' work, focusing on useful English from the same Disney movie, 'Up'.
I cannot stop this 'deep dive' where I have new discoveries no matter how much I study English. I can fully enjoy the fun of learning English... I feel every day that I am truly glad to have encountered 'English'.
