Health is an investment. Seriously developed by a FIRE (nearly unemployed) person: [Ponta Taro-style Walking]. Is it true that just walking doesn't make you healthy?
Introduction
When you achieve FIRE, a strange phenomenon occurs where, despite having time, your physical strength declines. It is an indescribable "FIRE paradox": "I should have gained freedom, but my body isn't free."
That is when I realized:
Health is an investment. Today, I want to talk about this truth that every FIRE member feels, while walking.
Apparently, just walking has little health benefit for you. So what should you do? Well, you have to create it. That is why I, a FIRE (nearly unemployed) person, seriously developed:
⭐"Ponta Taro-style Walking"⭐
1. Interval Fast Walking
Just walking is like "keeping cash in a chest of drawers." It doesn't grow, and the effect is minimal.
Interval fast walking is an investment strategy of alternating between fast walking (offense) and slow walking (defense).
The effects are like this:
- Increased endurance
- Prevention of lifestyle-related diseases
- Improvement of basal metabolism
- Graduation from being "someone who just walks"
A technique to turn the "low-risk asset" of walking into a "high-efficiency portfolio" all at once.
2. Towel Gripping
Just hold a hand towel in one hand and squeeze it. But don't underestimate this.
The effects are like this:
- Blood pressure stabilization
- Increased grip strength (directly linked to healthy life expectancy)
- Gives you a "feeling of working hard"
Grip strength is like the "market capitalization of health." If a FIRE member lets this slip, they will weaken rapidly.
3. Artery Massage
A "while-doing" health method where you gently press under your collarbone while walking to promote blood flow.
The effects are like this:
- Improved blood flow
- Reduced stiff shoulders
- The king of "while-doing" health methods you can perform while walking
It is not magic to cure arrhythmia, but it is definitely useful for "creating a heart-friendly environment". It is the "compound interest of health" you can earn while walking.
4. 8-Second Jump
A "rebellion against gravity" ritual performed after walking. Just jump 16 times in 8 seconds.
The effects are like this:
- Increased bone density
- Lower body strengthening
- Essential for the FIRE member's "battle against aging"
It doesn't directly lower blood pressure, but it definitely brings you closer to a "body where blood pressure is less likely to fluctuate". This is a "hedge against aging risk."
5. Knee Swinging Exercise (Finishing touch)
Finally, a ritual to loosen the joints by swinging your knees.
The effects are like this:
- Reduced knee strain
- Increased joint range of motion
- A realization that "I survived another day"
It doesn't mean your meniscus or cartilage will "grow," but there is no doubt that your knees will be in a better mood. This is like "knee maintenance costs."
All of these combined make up ⭐"Ponta Taro-style Walking"⭐
Procedure
1. Prepare a kitchen timer and a hand towel
2. Set the timer for 3 minutes
3. Fast walking (70-80% of maximum heart rate) - Work hard enough that you cannot hold a conversation.
4. At the same time, squeeze the towel with all your might in one hand
5. Use your free hand to press under your collarbone for artery massage
6. After 3 minutes, set it for another 3 minutes and walk slowly (complete rest)
7. Do this for 6 sets
8. When finished, 8-second jump x 10 sets (16 x 10 times)
9. Finally, knee swinging exercise (about 50 times)
With this, "Ponta Taro-style Walking" is complete.

Expected benefits
・Strengthen your heart and lungs with interval fast walking,
・Protect your grip strength by squeezing a towel,
・Improve blood flow with arterial massage,
・Strengthen your bones with 8-second jumps,
・And finish off with knee swinging.
In conclusion
FIRE is not the goal, it is just entering the “phase of continuing to manage the asset called health.” That is why today, I, a nearly unemployed person, walk. And I jump. And I swing my knees.
Let's build up the strongest asset, health, together.

When walking, I recommend TONE briefcases and tote bags. TONE is a comprehensive tool manufacturer, and their bags are generally very sturdy. The briefcase can be used as a shoulder bag or a backpack. Plus, it stands on its own.
