Reflections on the "Mysterious Night" Base Ball Bear × Galileo Galilei Joint Gig

The other day, I went to a joint gig featuring Base Ball Bear (hereinafter referred to as BBB) and Galileo Galilei, organized by Live Natalie.

I had been listening to BBB enthusiastically since I was a teenager, and Galileo Galilei debuted after winning the "Senkou Riot" festival, where BBB served as judges.

I remember those days well, and I felt that a performance by these two groups was something special; I believe most of the audience felt the same way.

Arriving in Shibuya on a sweltering day

Amidst record-breaking heat, Shibuya, which I hadn't visited in a while, was incredibly crowded.

The venue was Spotify O-EAST.
Horrifyingly, I was convinced until the day of the event that the venue was "LIQUIDROOM" in Ebisu. Assumptions are never good for anything.

It was my first time at this venue, and since it was surrounded by a hotel district, I thought I had gone to the wrong place.
I was surprised to find a 1,000-capacity live house in the middle of "Maruyamacho," one of Japan's most prominent hotel districts, but the atmosphere felt extraordinary and added to the excitement.

The live performance

I have been to many BBB concerts, including solo shows and festivals, but this was my first time in two years, since Rockin' Japan 2023.

As for Galileo Galilei, I had only seen them once at a festival, and this was my first time seeing them at a show like this.
I waited for the show to start with a bit of nervous anticipation.

As stated in the overview, they are a special pair for their respective fans, and surely for the members themselves as well.

In fact, there were many audience members of my generation who likely knew about those days, and it seemed like everyone had come with their own special feelings.

Galileo Galilei

Focusing mainly on recent songs, with almost no MC, they were stoic and just incredibly cool.
I was surprised to see from the setlist that they had played 12 songs.
That’s how much of a whirlwind it felt like.

I was an avid listener of Galileo Galilei during my high school years.
Since that was around 2008–2010 when they won Senkou Riot, this setlist wasn't about "those days," but was filled with the "now" of Galileo.
Although I prepared by listening to their music beforehand, seeing them in person was incredibly powerful and I was overwhelmed.

The song "Hello Goodbye," which they performed when they won Senkou Riot, was self-covered this year.

Base Ball Bear

In contrast, BBB started with “BREEEEZE GIRL”.
It is one of their classic songs, and the venue's energy skyrocketed from the very first track.

Mixing in their classic summer hits with their new song "Natsu no Saibu," which was released shortly after, the setlist continued to weave together the old and the new.

While Galileo Galilei had almost no MC, BBB had an MC every two or three songs.
I found myself laughing out loud at their typical, casual banter.

The song “senkou_hanabi” performed toward the end felt particularly meaningful to be played at this joint gig, given that it was the support song for the 2013 "Senkou Riot".

(Watching the MV again was so emotional... Ai Hashimoto is also such a beautiful girl...)

End of the entire event

Galileo Galilei also appeared on stage for a commemorative photo.
I was kept laughing until the very end by Yusuke Koide (hereinafter referred to as "Koi-chan" with respect), who held the microphone cord and said, "We're going to do some jump rope."

With that comment from Koi-chan, I'm already looking forward to next year.

Conclusion

The BeVoBe and Galileo that the me from back then used to watch were truly there.

Thanks to them continuing their activities to this day, I felt that I, now an adult, could reminisce about the past while celebrating who I have been, and it gave me the energy for tomorrow.

It was a "mysterious night" where I felt like I had returned to my teenage years.
