Why "Passive" People in Both Work and Note Will Be Finished in the Future
I, too, was a
thoroughly "passive" type.
“If I work hard, someone will find me.”
“If I am a good person, I will naturally be evaluated.”
“If I wait to be approached, opportunities will come my way.”
I always thought things like that somewhere in my heart.
But this was completely wrong.
I realized that when I suddenly saw a phrase on social media.
“Don't think someone else will do it. The one who does it is you.”
This sentence struck me hard.
In fact, in both Note and work, we are in an era where passive people are being buried.
People who can take action and initiate things are moving to the front.
Even as I look around, I personally think the era where you are evaluated just by staying silent is over.
Why is being "passive" dangerous?
Passive people are always waiting for“the actions of others.”For example, like this.
If I write a Note, someone will surely pick it up.
If I produce notable results, surely someone will give me work.
If I post on social media, companies and media will surely reach out to me.
If there is someone I want to be friends with, they will surely talk to me first.
I wonder if I'll get a reply on LINE from that person I'm interested in...?
Now, how long will you wait for that?
It's unfortunate, but such people will live their whole lives missing out on opportunities. I think they will keep saying that forever and their lives will end.
The current era is not so easy that opportunities will just roll in while you are passive, and since there are so many content creators, even if you post, if you don't take action, you are the same as“non-existent.”No matter how excellent the content you write is, if you leave it alone, it won't reach anyone. (I'm sure many people writing Notes feel this...)
Rather, people who can sell themselves, take action, and initiate things, even if they lack a bit of ability, will overwhelmingly seize opportunities.
And this is exactly the same not only for Note but also in the business field.
From "passive" to
the changes in those who switched to "proactive"
I'd like to introduce the example of a freelance writer I know.
At first, he was writing a few columns a month online, but they never really went viral, and his income remained flat. But then one day,
"This isn't working!"he thought, and apparently decided to change his mindset.
And then,
・After writing a column, he posted it on X himself with three different angles
・Summarized the content of the column and expanded it to LinkedIn
・Contacted editors he was interested in via DM, saying, "I wrote this kind of article, could I get your feedback?"
・Actively tagged and shared the companies and people featured in his articles
He said he was nervous at first and was often turned down. But after three months, the reactions gradually increased, and eventually, he received requests for contributions from major media outlets.
That's what he said.
"If you just wait, no one will notice you. I realized I had to go out and make them notice."
That is absolutely true.
Even in the business world,
"people who can work independently" are the ones chosen
Whether you are an employee or a freelancer,"whether you can work independently"makes a huge difference.
People who can propose the next action on their own, even if their boss or client says nothing.
People who can move before being told.
People who have a "proactive" rather than "waiting" attitude.
Trust and opportunities gather around such people. Conversely, those who wait for instructions, wait for contact, or wait for requests end up with the impression that they are "hard to delegate to" or "hard to have expectations for."
Imagine you are in a position to ask someone to do a job. Who would you want to ask? Wouldn't it be someone who acts without being told, or someone who makes suggestions?
I think staying in a "waiting posture" is actually a huge loss.
"People who can take action" are overwhelmingly strong
Now, after reading this far, some people might think,
"That's true, but I don't have the confidence."
Like being afraid of being rejected.
Or worrying that you won't be able to convey your message well. And so on.
But everyone is like that at first. (I was too.) You don't have to be in a perfect state. Start small with what you can do.
For example,
・After publishing a note, try sharing it on SNS yourself
・Send a thank-you message to those who commented
・Instead of just "liking" posts from people you're interested in, reply with your thoughts
・If there's an article you want to write, try publishing just the outline first
Instead of "waiting for someone else's action," just having the mindset of
"taking action yourself" will change the situation significantly.
Finally: What will you initiate today?
As long as you remain passive, nothing will change.
That said, I think 90% of people in the world are "passive." So everyone has this feeling.
But that is exactly why!
Moving to the side of "taking action yourself" makes you incredibly strong.
When you come up with an idea, if you involve others with love and respect and take action, you might get results you never expected.
Even if you are a bit clumsy or inexperienced, the person who can move on their own is the strongest.
(It's okay to be clumsy, but have love and respect! That's the golden rule.)
While you are waiting for something, your rivals are moving.
While you are gathering information, opportunities are being snatched away.
While you are watching for the right timing, saying "this time for sure...", time just passes by.
Lastly, here are some grateful words from Mr. Matayoshi that also apply to romance 🙏🏻

I hope this is at least a little helpful.
See you tomorrow 🫶🏻
