Making Manufacturing Security More Accessible: Why a Small Specialized Firm Started an Official Note

ICS Research Institute has launched an official Note as a new channel to bridge the gap between highly specialized, in-depth explanatory articles and casual social media posts.
By leveraging compatibility with Google search and generative AI, we will deliver information on manufacturing security in more accessible language.

As an 'insider,' I am starting a new challenge.

Since last year, I have been writing on Note, feeling as though it were a companion to my audio broadcasts.

In the midst of that, I have now decided to launch the official Note for ICS Research Institute, the company where I work full-time.

I created the account yesterday, and today, just past noon at 1:00 PM, I made our momentous first post.

Honestly, at first, I thought, 'Nobody is probably looking at this,' but despite it being shortly after publication, I received 'likes' from six people.
One of them is me, though (laughs).
Even so, I am truly grateful to have received reactions from five people other than myself.

We are a small company, but a highly specialized one.

ICS Research Institute, where I work, is a cybersecurity consulting firm specializing in OT, control systems, and factory production systems for the manufacturing industry.

Including the president, there are only seven employees.
It is a truly small organization.

However, as a company specializing in this field, we are quite rare in Japan, and having been founded in 2015, this is our 11th year.
We are likely the first OT security specialized firm in Japan.

Why did we decide to start sharing information on 'Note' again, starting from the milestone year of 2026?
Today, I would like to talk a little about the reason.

Articles that are too heavy and social media that is too short. I wanted the 'gap' between them.

There are two main reasons why I started Note.

The first is that I wanted to bridge a small 'gap' I had felt in our information dissemination until now.

Until now, we have written quite serious explanatory articles on our corporate website regarding themes such as cybersecurity threats, attack methods, and legal regulations in the West and Japan.

Each piece is 5,000 characters long.
Some longer ones even exceed 10,000 characters.

Since accuracy is more important than anything else, the process involves thorough reviews by internal consultants and the president before finally being published.

While the content is dense, the update frequency is inevitably limited to one post every two to three weeks.
The aspects of being 'heavy' and 'too specialized' cannot be denied.

On the other hand, there is the social media I have been focusing on since changing jobs.
X, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

While these allow for casual posting, there are character limits, and there is the barrier that 'it only reaches people you are connected with.'

Even when we want to break down specialized topics, they inevitably end up feeling fragmented.
We felt a sense of frustration with that.

Between 'specialized, heavy-duty articles' and 'light, fleeting social media posts'.
We wanted a place where we could share stories about manufacturing security and what a small specialist firm like ours is thinking, with a volume somewhere in between, using more down-to-earth language.
That is why we chose note.

That was note.

Expectations for note as a 'power to be discovered'

The second reason is our expectations for the note platform itself.

Over the past year or so, we have often heard that note content tends to rank high in Google search results.

Furthermore, at the beginning of this year,
there was a lot of buzz about the news that 'note is the second most cited Japanese information source by generative AI, after Wikipedia'.

The fact that generative AI like ChatGPT and Gemini treats note content as 'reliable information' had a significant impact on us, honestly.

We are a small company with only seven employees, but
we pride ourselves on having knowledge and experience in this field that is second to none.

If we share that properly, it might increase the chances of being 'discovered' by people searching for information via generative AI or
people looking for services.

With that expectation in mind, we started our official note.

Aiming for a 'new standard of trust' in 2026

Our first article is about 1,200 characters long,
serving as a kind of 'business card' or 'introduction'.

The title is
'2026: Making security the new standard of trust'.

The account name is
'Manufacturing Security Experts: ICS Research Institute'.
I am writing this as the person behind the account.

For now, it is more of a statement of intent, but
from here on, I would like to deliver articles every weekday if possible.
At the very least, I hope to post about three times a week.

Writing 1,000 to 2,000 characters consistently is honestly not easy.
But even if it is small, we will keep building it up.
I would be happy if you could watch over us through that process.

If you would like, following us would be a great encouragement.
We look forward to your support.
