♦︎27 Soft words over strong voices
"I hate you, Daddy!"
That one sentence gave me a little sting in my heart.
I didn't mean to get angry,
but before I knew it, my voice had become harsh.
Reflecting on it a little,
the next day,
I asked the nursery school teacher.
"When they say 'hate,' they don't really mean it."
"It's a sign that they 'can't express themselves well.'"
"At three years old, emotions come out first."
"So, instead of scolding, it's better to tell them 'what you want them to do.'"
"For example,
instead of 'Don't run,'
try 'I'd be happy if you walked slowly.'"
"If you add your feelings to 'what you want them to do,'
it's easier for the message to get through."
I tried changing my words a little.
"That makes me feel troubled."
"I'd be happy if you did this instead."
It's not about becoming a parent who never scolds.
It's about being able to choose words that guide them.
