What to do to encounter beautiful flowers in life
When you look at a beautiful flower and feel that it is "beautiful," Buddhism teaches that this beauty does not reside in the flower itself, but is something projected by the "heart" of the person looking at it.
Today, I would like to introduce a famous Zen anecdote.✨
"Is it the wind, the flag, or the mind?"
One day, a flag was fluttering in the wind. Two monks saw this and began to argue.
• Monk A: "The flag is moving."
• Monk B: "No, the wind is moving."
Since the argument would not end, they asked a high priest (the Sixth Patriarch Huineng) who happened to be passing by, and he said this:
"It is not the wind that is moving. It is not the flag that is moving. Your minds are moving."
This is a point that the one who perceives it as "swaying" is, in the end, "your own swaying mind."
If your heart was moved by looking at a flower, it means that it was not the flower, but your own heart that was stirred.
The world is an image of the "mind"
In the school of "Yogacara" (Consciousness-Only), it is believed that we are not seeing reality itself, but rather the "images (film)" created by our own minds.
• If you wear red-tinted glasses, the world looks red.
• If you are wearing the glasses of sadness, even a beautiful flower will look "lonely."
• If you are wearing the glasses of joy, even the weeds on the roadside will look like "vibrant life."
Therefore, if you felt that a flower was beautiful, it is the greatest proof that you are currently viewing the world through the lens (glasses) of "beauty."
In Buddhist terms,
To encounter beautiful flowers, you do not need to search the whole world.
Polishing your own "lens of the heart" is the shortest path.
Isn't that a wonderful story?
Happiness is surprisingly lying right beside us.
It means that "you don't need a lot of money to be happy." Everyone, please don't work too hard either 🤭
My bible, which I always introduce.
It is said to be the fifth most read book in the world, andPaulo Coelho's "The Alchemist"actually reaches the same conclusion.
"I think that what he, having traveled the world, wanted to convey to people everywhere through his story was exactly the same thing as this Buddhist anecdote..."
That is what I think.
What to do to encounter beautiful flowers...
When I was young,
I thought that the further I traveled, the more likely I was to encounter those flowers.
But in fact, the flowers were always blooming right at my feet 🍀
It means cherishing the
"now"that is certainly right in front of you.
Perhaps people travel through the "time called life" in order to realize that.
Thank you for your continued support ♪
