🧩 Business Improvement is 'Just 5 Things'—Everything Can Be Explained by Marketing, Product, Culture, Structure, and Systems
🛠 Business improvement can only be discussed through '5 variables'
Hello, I'm Roel.
From now on, I would like to share as clearly as possible what I do as an advisory consultant on note.
I would like to summarize the 'steps for business improvement and reform' that I often use in a simple way. You don't need difficult theories or frameworks. At the end of the day, I believe there are actually only 5 major variables that can be moved to improve management.
Regarding this kind of topic, I think there are various ways of thinking about 'how business improvement should be' based on academic approaches, but personally, I believe that the correct answer can vary depending on the path an individual has walked.
Therefore, the following discussion is based on steps that I find easy for business improvement, so some people might think, 'No, that's not right,' but I would like to talk about it anyway.
*Corporate-side areas are excluded as they are outside my expertise.
🔀 1. The major premise of business improvement: The two axes of 'Business' and 'Organization'
Regardless of the company, the approach to improvement is narrowed down to two things.
Improving the business or improving the organization.
I believe that 90% of management issues can be organized with just this simple perspective.

Improving the business—this is directly linked to sales and customer value.
Improving the organization—this becomes the foundation for the company to sustain itself for a long time.
And when broken down further, these two axes branch out as follows.
📈 2. The two variables on the business side
Business is divided into marketing and product.

Product 🛍: The sales floor and the product itself. In a physical sense, everything that is 'for sale,' including stores and customer service.
Marketing 📣: Everything else. Customer acquisition, public relations, sales activities, advertising strategy, etc.
My definition is very rough, but that is precisely why it is easy to understand.
Is it the 'product itself' or the 'way of selling'?
When you cut it down simply, the points that should be improved also become clear.
🏢 3. The three variables on the organization side
On the other hand, I organize the organization into three things: culture/structure/systems.

Culture 🌱: A company's values and behavioral guidelines. The culture that defines 'what kind of company we want to be.'
Structure 🗂: The boxes and roles built based on culture. Organizational charts, hierarchies, and division of responsibilities.
Systems ⚖️: Mechanisms to keep the structure running smoothly. Rules for achieving results, such as evaluations, authority, and compensation.
This order is extremely important. Without culture, you cannot build a structure, and without a structure, systems will become hollow. Building from the foundation up is the basic principle.
👤 4. The '4 Areas' I Am Personally Involved In
I have supported many companies, but looking back, I am involved in 4 out of these 5 areas.
Marketing 📣
Product 🛍
Culture 🌱
Systems ⚖️
Conversely, the only area I haven't been deeply involved in yet is 'Structure' 🗂.
That is precisely why I feel it would be interesting to touch upon that as well in the future.
However, it is quite difficult to be involved in these multiple areas simultaneously...
🔮 5. About the Future
Ultimately, business improvement is nothing more than a combination of '5 variables'.
Because I am currently involved in 4 of them on a daily basis, I believe I have a lot to talk about based on on-site learning and real-world examples.
Therefore, in future articles, I will delve into marketing, product, culture, and systems, incorporating my own real-life experiences.
Management might look complicated, but
it is surprisingly simple when broken down into a framework.
Because it is simple, you can see in an instant 'where to take action.'
I would like to continue sharing that perspective.
