💰July Performance Report🚀 Spot Consulting Results: 31,000 JPY/hour, 4 projects, 110,000 JPY total
💼 Spot consulting is both a 'side hustle' and 'training'—looking back at 4 projects in July
In July, I received more spot consulting requests than usual, and
as a result, I ended up taking on 4 projects.
Each one was a short session of about an hour, but the content was intense.

▼💰July Spot Consulting Results💰
Since I'm at it, I'd like to look back on these as a personal memo.

🧩 Project 1 | I want you to evaluate the 'quality' of an advertising agency
This was a request from a consulting firm.
As I mentioned in this article, it was a request from a support company, not a business corporation.
In other words, it was a consulting-for-consultants project lol
The client company they were supporting
was apparently feeling anxious, wondering,
'Is the advertising agency we're currently using really charging a reasonable amount and providing quality?'
However, there were no advertising operations experts on their consulting team.
So, I was called in as an 'advertising agency quality evaluator.'
I looked at the materials and various information within the scope of what could be disclosed,
and checked the reports and operational details provided by the agency.
Having been in this industry for nearly 20 years, honestly, I can tell pretty much everything just by looking.
I clearly communicated my assessment, saying, 'They are doing this part properly, but this part is weak.'
I thought it would end there, but it seems a discussion arose within their reporting line, and I conducted another review as an addition. As a result, I was involved twice.
That earned me 60,000 JPY💰
..I often think this, but I feel like the compensation is almost too large to be sorry for.
The thing is, without any particular preparation, just answering what I thought on the spot
for 30,000 JPY an hour, I think it's much more profitable than advisory work.
Advisory work requires fully understanding the client first,
doing research to fit that client, coming up with ideas,
and creating materials, so even for a one-hour meeting, it takes a lot of energy.
Am I really providing 30,000 JPY worth of value in one hour?
Sometimes I get a little anxious about it.
🧩 Project 2 | Product brainstorming for a BtoB matching business
Next, I worked with a company currently developing a new business product.
They asked for my opinion on the pros and cons, and how they could make it sell.
The product was still in development, so I shared my perspective on improvements, positioning, and sales strategies while actually testing the screens and user experience.
It was a short 30-minute session, but it was very dense.
Getting involved with products at the 'conceptual stage' like this is fun and, above all, stimulating.
The founder was incredibly charismatic and the service was great, so I felt like I wanted to support them by promoting it once it launches.
🧩 Project ③ | What about sales channels? Should we use agencies?
It's a bit complex, but this was a project where a private equity fund sought advice for the purpose of growing their portfolio company.
*In other words, just like project ①, this is consulting for consultants.
Since it's a somewhat niche B2B service, we discussed whether to sell through marketing, use agencies, direct sales, or sales agencies.
They were particularly interested in 'how to utilize agencies'.
When do agencies actually work?
What are the commission rates?
How do you build a relationship?
What happens if you leave it entirely to them?
We had a 'no-holds-barred' brainstorming session on those topics.
Based on my past experience, I know the ins and outs of how to deal with agencies and the pitfalls to avoid, so I shared the options that best fit each phase.
💰 Total Compensation and Hourly Rate Sense
I also want to talk about the money.
For these four spot consulting projects, the compensation was roughly as follows.
Project ①: 30,000 JPY x 2 sessions
Project ②: 15,000 JPY for 30 minutes
Project ③: 35,000 JPY for 1 hour
Total: Approximately 110,000 JPY.
Worked about 3.5 hours.
In other words, that's an hourly rate of about 31,000 JPY.
*Since the platform takes a 30% commission from this, it comes to 22,000 JPY per hour.
Honestly, it's not bad.
In fact, it feels more like, 'If I can make this much in my spare time, it's totally worth it.'
I hope the market for spot consulting continues to expand.
🧠 Spot consulting is a form of 'training'
I believe spot consulting isn't just a side hustle; it's also a place for
practical training.
You never know what kind of questions will be thrown at you.
You need to build trust within one hour.
You must keep articulating your thoughts on the spot.
This is incredibly good training.
And the 'articulation of thoughts' and 'structuring of ideas' that I usually do on note really come in handy.
There are moments when I can draw on things like, 'Oh, I summarized this on note before.'
Furthermore, because compensation is involved, there is a sense of professional tension.
This serves assales trainingand is alsothe first step toward turning your own skills into a service.
💬 In conclusion | I want you to try doing just one project
The four projects this time were in my areas of expertise, such as advertising and sales channels, but in reality, there are many more types of consultations.
Human Resources
Accounting
On-site management
Customer service know-how
Sounding board for sales pitches

Your experience is more "valuable" than you think.
It doesn't matter if you're "not a freelancer yet...".
Just dip one foot in.
I really want full-time employees to try this as a way to increase their options.
*I've been recommending this to all my friends lately.
