Good morning, everyone! (*´∀｀*)

The long weekend flew by,

but I'm fully refreshed,

so I'm ready to give it my all again starting today!

Anyway, I've just been posting illustrations every day, but I thought I'd pick one out and briefly share the intent behind it and some thoughts on the composition (/・ω・)/

Today's piece

For this work, I was very conscious of "making the colors stand out by stripping away information."

First, the most obvious part is how the face is handled. It's composed almost entirely of "white," with minimal shading. Usually, you'd add gradients to create a sense of depth, but by intentionally keeping it flat, it serves to elevate the intensity of the surrounding colors. In other words, the character itself acts like a canvas.

Instead, I concentrated the information in the eyes. I increased the saturation of the blue and added fine details within the iris, designing it so that it would absolutely be the starting point for the viewer's gaze. Because there is so little information on the face, this single point becomes quite powerful.

The surrounding composition is built on "contrast." There is a mix of black-based areas and colorful dots and splashes, creating a relationship of "stillness and motion." In particular, while the left side is dark and dense, the right side is white-based and open. This asymmetry creates tension in the frame.

Also, the black lace-like decorations. These aren't just decorations; they are elements used to create "boundaries." They function as a frame to control how the colors behave, and their presence is what keeps the whole piece from falling apart.

The colored dots might look random, but they actually have a rhythm in their size and placement. I was conscious of a flow like large → small → medium, designing it so that the viewer's gaze naturally travels around. You could call it "noise that creates a path for the eyes."

Overall, it has a structure of "minimalist subject × chaotic decoration."

It's a piece that balances the paradox of making things stand out by stripping them away, and bringing things together by scattering them.
