[Writer Activity Log] 3rd Month of Activity / Looking Back at November, When I Started Taking School Courses

Hello!
It has been a while since my last post.

I am Saori Murakawa, a medical writer.

Starting this month, I began taking courses at a school, and I have been working daily on:
・Video learning and assignment creation at school
・Setting up a blog site on WordPress
In this article, I will look back on my activities in November, reflect on what I have learned, identify future challenges, and set goals for December!

Looking back at this month

The goals I set for this month back in October were:

・Create sample articles on WordPress
・Rewrite articles I posted on note
・Apply for jobs on CrowdWorks

These were the three goals.
I would like to check my progress toward these goals while reflecting on my activities this month below.

1. Lessons learned in my first month of school

I started taking the "How to Become a Medical Writer" course at Medi+ on November 3rd.

Some of you might be wondering, "How was it to join the school?"
My impression after the first month is:

"I'm so glad I gathered the courage to sign up for the school!"
Until now, I had been learning writing and medical writer know-how on my own by reading books.

I was writing articles on note using what I learned, but...
Moving on from just relying on my intuition that "it would be nice to have an article explaining this topic in an easy-to-understand way,"

・Analyzing media outlets I would like to work for in the future
・Selecting keywords while considering search volume

I was able to acquire perspectives that I had been missing.

I was reminded once again that it is important not just to write text, but to be conscious of writing articles to solve readers' problems and achieve the client's goals.

The thing I felt most strongly after taking the course is:
the importance of having the text I write reviewed by others!

There are perspectives that only experienced senior writers who have written many articles can notice, and by having my writing reviewed, I gained many lessons and insights that I could not have obtained from books alone.

2. Setting up a blog site on WordPress

I signed up for a server, acquired a custom domain, and launched my own blog site!

I haven't published it yet, but I have progressed to the point of creating a portfolio.
In the future, I plan to utilize both note and my blog site for my portfolio.

Currently, I am in the middle of creating sample articles to help me land jobs on crowdsourcing sites.

Although I haven't reached the point of finishing the sample articles yet, I want to thoroughly research and refine the structure to create articles I am satisfied with.

I have applied for five jobs on crowdsourcing sites so far.
Regarding my cover letters, I am researching how to write them and considering improvements to revise them.

However, I have come to realize that my lack of a track record is a challenge, so I am currently focusing more on creating sample articles than on applying for new jobs.

I want to polish various skills, such as research and writing, so that people will think, "I want to entrust this person with work!"

3. Posting on X and note

It has been three months since I started posting on X.
I declare my daily tasks and share my daily life, and since I have started receiving likes and comments, I am enjoying using it.

Because there are people watching my posts,
I feel motivated to try my best to achieve what I have declared, and connecting with fellow writers helps me maintain my motivation.

While enjoying interaction and information exchange, I hope to eventually use X for business development and land jobs.

As for note, although I haven't been able to post new articles or rewrite old ones, I have been able to modify and add to my portfolio as needed.

It may be at a slow pace, but I want to continue looking back on my activities like this and reading various articles to deepen my learning.

Challenges identified from this month's activities and goals for December

Applying for several jobs and once again feeling the pain of my lack of experience was a major lesson and a challenge.

In December, I will continue to focus on my school studies while writing sample articles.

I will strive to improve my skills little by little every day so that I can contribute to solving the problems of clients and readers.

Goals for December
・Give my all to school assignments and connect them to skill improvement
・Actively participate in school review sessions and networking events to resolve questions and gain new insights
・Create sample articles
→・Work on job applications, such as those with matching themes
・Read books for at least one minute a day to build an input habit

I will do my best every day to achieve these five goals.

While my posting frequency on note will decrease during my time at school, I would like to post a reflection article like this once a month.

Thank you for reading until the end!

If you liked this article, it would encourage me if you could give it a like, comment, or follow me!
