[Review] From a VRChat Performer's Perspective! I Used the Bigscreen Beyond 2e for 2 Months

This article contains affiliate links.

However, the link to the Beyond unit itself is not one.

Introduction

The other day, I purchased the Bigscreen Beyond 2e! I switched from the original VIVE Pro. After using it for about two months, excluding the eye-tracking features, I find it extremely user-friendly and am very satisfied with its comfort!

In this article, I will provide an honest review of my impressions so far.
I would like to add more about eye-tracking later...! But conversely, this should also be a good reference for those who don't need eye-tracking.

There is absolutely no mention of a headphone jack!
Audio requires the use of an audio interface.

About the Author

I have been active in VR for about 5 years, mainly in VRChat, as a singer and more!
I aim to create engaging live performances by incorporating movement. I also post videos on YouTube, so please check them out 🌟

🥽 Reason for Purchase

I had been using the VIVE Pro for about 3 years!

Last year, there was a lot of talk about how "semiconductor prices are rising, so devices might get expensive next year!" Do you remember that?

I felt a vague anxiety, thinking, "I just bought a PC, but what if the HMD breaks and I can't afford a new one because the prices have gone up too much?"
Since I also had some thoughts about its weight and functionality, I decided to take the plunge and buy it!

Now that it's 2026, I feel like financial anxieties—like whether imports are okay given the current situation, the weak yen, and inflation—have taken center stage 🥹
Regardless, I'm glad I was able to get it while I could buy it with peace of mind.

No, the size is completely different!!!!
I had often seen comparison images like this circulating on X, but I was even more surprised when I actually held it in my hands.

There is a very 'gaming' feature that allows you to customize the lamp color.
I usually don't have my devices emit light other than for necessary functions, so I was quite flustered.
It seems you can choose the lamp color for when it's operating normally; while I thought green might be more reassuring, I went with the mokz color since I had the chance.

The poor image quality is due to anti-reflection...

🥽 Comfort and fit

💮 It's incredibly light!

It went from being 770g until now to just about 120g!
Previously, the weight was on my nose, and I felt it slightly affected me when singing. It was even lighter than the VIVE Flow, which I consider to be quite glasses-like among VR devices.

💮 Happy that I can set a narrow IPD

The distance between the pupils of both eyes is called IPD (a very rough explanation).
The VIVE Pro has a minimum of about 61mm, and even the Quest series is 58mm, but
with the Beyond 2e, you can set it as low as 53mm.

>The optimal IPD for Meta Quest headsets is 56–70mm, which covers 95% of adults.
They say that, but personally, even at the minimum setting, it was still bothersome.

I've never measured my own IPD properly, but after adjusting it little by little to about 55mm, it became extremely comfortable 😭
Until now, honestly, there was always some black part between my nose that existed, and it bothered me, causing me to lose immersion... I had half-given up, thinking, 'Well, I guess this is just what VR is like.'

The average IPD for young Japanese women is 61mm. Since that's an average, it means there are plenty of people like me who are below that.

⚠ Might need some positioning research

Surprisingly, the distance between the eyes and the lenses is close, and at first, I struggled with the angle of the goggles. It felt like it was better to wear it slightly higher than my previous HMDs!

If you get eyelash extensions, you're probably done for. I guess there aren't many VR users who get eyelash extensions? No, wait, there are. I did it during the Quest 2 era and saw hell. Eyelash perms are better (one defeat).

If you feel that angle adjustment is difficult even in normal VR, or if you don't want to attach it too tightly, the halo mount might be better for you.
The face cushion is also somewhat prone to getting stuffy.

Since it's slightly more expensive to buy separately than when selecting it at the time of purchase, it might be better to just go with the halo from the start... (one defeat).

⚠ You can't peek at the outside world at all

Just as the rumors said. On the bright side, because the standard strap itself isn't rigid, you can just shift the goggles to see. I've been wearing glasses under my goggles until now, so I'm still surprised at how blurry my vision is when I take them off...

⚠ If you look down with just your eyes...

As mentioned in other reviews, there is some RGB misalignment at the bottom edge of the field of view. However, unless you look way down with just your eyes, it's at a level you barely notice during normal use. Unless there's a specific reason to, you probably shouldn't do that anyway.

🥽 Things related to VR performance

💮 Thank you for the standard strap

I've been waiting for a Lighthouse-based HMD that doesn't have a bunch of stuff attached to the head. Because I'm a singer, it's essential to have a headphone microphone that isn't built into the HMD and can be properly plugged into an audio interface. That's why the

standard strap is incredibly easy to use
!

When I used the VIVE Pro, I had to somehow wear headphones over it, which was unstable. Sometimes they would fall off when I shook my head, and that even happened in the middle of a song. It was tough because my movement was restricted...

The Quest is heavier, so a compact band makes it tilt forward, and above all, considering operational stability, I wanted to stick with Lighthouse. This is because I had an environment that didn't play well with Virtual Desktop, and I have a philosophy of wanting to minimize the amount of software involved!

The Beyond's standard strap is a bit tricky to get a good hold on by itself, but by wearing sturdy headphones over it, it was fixed perfectly! It doesn't feel like the headphones and strap are squeezing you twice; it's surprisingly just right.

By the way, the headphone microphone is ATH-M50xSTS.

※ When buying from another site, check if it's the XLR terminal version...!
It's great that you can mute by flipping the mic up, and the sound quality is good too.
I feel like it's been spreading among the VR singers I know... lol

💮 You can bring your hands close to your face

The range of poses I can strike has expanded, and I'm happy that I don't hit my face with my hands (controllers) anymore!!!!!
Depending on the avatar, you can even touch your face!

Also, I don't play that way at all, so this is pure imagination, but wouldn't this be quite easy for people who do headpats...
Thinking about facing each other at close range and waving your hands in front of your face, it seems easy to do.

Wait, is headpatting supposed to be done while facing each other!? Lap pillows!? Which is it!? Waaaaah

⚠ Pin back your bangs

It seems there's some kind of sensor on the top of the unit...
When I wondered why it was jumping around so much, it turned out my bangs were covering the sensor.
If that happened during a live performance, it would be a disaster! Hairpins have become an essential item.

🥽 How about eye tracking?

To use eye tracking, you need to adjust both the HMD side and the VRChat OSC settings!
I didn't think about it beforehand, so I still haven't touched it! It's not like your eyes start moving the moment you buy it...

Thankfully, I've received various projects this year, so it will take some time to get started. I'll update if I do anything.

However, it's not like you can't use it without setting up eye tracking. Every time I start VRChat, I just get a notification like:
💻️ "Your VR supports eye tracking! Set it up soon!"
That's about it. You're so kind.

🥽 Others

🌟 Let's use a separate power supply

I already have a ton of trackers, and I'm even using dongles for my controllers (*UDCAP), so I really don't want to have to use USB power!
With my previous PC, I had trouble with trackers suddenly flying off, possibly due to insufficient or unstable power, so I was worried about that🥲. I thought about whether there was a way to minimize power consumption, and I found one.

The link box has one DisplayPort and two USB ports, but the USB port labeled "POWER" is only for power supply, andit seems you don't need to plug this into your PC.
You say I should get a bigger PC power supply? If I do that, you know, the electricity bill will...

For power, I'm using a charger that came with my iPad that accepts a USB-A cable. I've been using it for a while with no issues, so it's probably fine...! It's not really intended to be plugged into a USB port, and there's no specific mention of Power Delivery, so I guess as long as it outputs 5V, it should be okay.

Just as I was thinking that, I found an article that also stated, "A simple charger, like one for smartphone fast charging, is good!"

🌟 Let's physically unplug the power

The link box doesn't have a power button, and leaving it powered on isn't great, so I unplug the cable between the link box and the headset every time.
Since the link box is easier to replace, let's try to prevent terminal degradation by unplugging the link box side while leaving the headset side as is.

🌟 Introducing a recommended storage spot

It's probably sized for Quest/PICO, but I was able to use it for the Beyond as well.
The width is actually a bit short, so it ends up floating a little... but other than wall-mounted options, this is the most compact way to store it!

It's fine if you have a desk you can clamp it to.
The face cushion tends to attract dust even after wiping it...

Thank you for reading this far!
I really like the Beyond 2 overall, so I hope this is helpful to you.
Whether you're a performer or not, or someone working hard to start, let's enjoy comfortable and lightweight VR together! /ᐠ。⩊。ᐟ\
