The Trash Can in Your Heart: The Voice of the 'True You'
なんとなく 心が重たい
スッキリしない
モヤモヤする…Don't throw away the voice of the 'true you'!
Do you ever have days
when your heart feels heavy?
Feeling a bit unsettled?
That might be because
you are hearing the
'true voice of you'
that was thrown into the trash can of your heart.

The 'trash can'
we face unconsciously
every single day.
Receipts, used tissues,
expired seasonings,
magazines you no longer read...
We toss various
'things we no longer need'
away, one after another.
It seems like a very natural
action, but
in reality, it tugs
at the back of our hearts just a little.
The other day, while I was
doing a deep clean of my room,
I found old letters and gifts
from someone I used to love
at the back of a drawer.
Those were 'memories' that I,
as I am now, no longer needed.
But the moment I touched them,
my heart felt a little stirred.
'Should I throw this away?'
'But isn't this also a part
of the 'me' I've been until now?'
Every day, we discard
not just things, but even
'emotions' and 'memories'.
Sometimes, because we judge them
as unnecessary for ourselves.
Sometimes, because we don't want to see them,
because they hurt, so we try
to pretend they never existed.

For example,
'a past where you failed' or
'a memory of being hurt by someone',
or perhaps
'the ideal self you wanted to become',
'things you actually wanted to say', or
'that one remark you couldn't forgive'.
We put those into the
'trash can' inside our hearts
and pretend not to see them.
But even if you think you've thrown them away,
they accumulate at the bottom of your heart,
and one day, in a fleeting moment,
they might rise to the surface.
'I actually wanted to cry
back then.'
'I just wanted to say
I'm sorry.'
'Even so,
I wanted to be loved.'—
Inside the trash can,
along with the 'things' you don't need,
the 'you' who couldn't speak up
might be quietly holding its breath.

'The voice of you inside your heart'—
haven't you thrown that away too?
What is important
might be 'looking'
rather than 'throwing away'.
Is it really okay to let go?
Are you leaving it alone
while it hasn't healed yet?
Sometimes throwing things away
brings relief,
but sometimes you regret
that you shouldn't have thrown them away.
Before you decide that something is 'unnecessary',
I want you to listen to its story
for just a little while.
To the
'true voice of you'inside the trash can.

In the trash can of your heart,
today, too, there might be
'the invisible you'inside.
But surely, it is within that very place
that you will find the
'fragments of yourself'you must not forget.
So today,
gently open the trash can in your heart
and ask, 'Is it really okay to let go?'
To the voice of the 'you' from back then,
whom you wanted to discard
but didn't want to discard,
just by listening for a little while,
you will feel much more at ease.
Among the things you have
'thrown away' recently,
is there a 'true voice of you'
that you must not forget?
