Osaka's "Maishima" is such a fun leisure island!
Last week, I wrote an article about how the tour of the "Maishima Incineration Plant," a waste treatment facility on the artificial island of "Maishima" in Konohana Ward, Osaka, was more amazing than I expected!
There are no regular residences or apartment buildings on "Maishima," and even some people in Osaka may only recognize it as a "Sports Island," but in fact, there are plenty of spots to enjoy!
I will deliver information on the Nemophila Festival, accommodations, sports karts, the Sports Island, and gourmet food.
⭐ [Relaxing] Nemophila Festival
You can enjoy the "Nemophila" flowers, which are in full bloom from April to May, at the Osaka Maishima Seaside Park's "Nemophila Festival".
The 2026 "Nemophila Festival" was held for the first time in two years. (Ended on 5/10)
This is because in 2025, the World Expo was held on the neighboring artificial island of "Yumeshima," and many special parking lots were set up on Maishima.
Nemophila flowers are so cute and lovely♪
A field of Nemophila is a spectacular spring view!
If you look closely, there are not only light blue, but also white and pale purple Nemophila.
Furthermore, tulips are also blooming, and this color contrast is great!
Scattered throughout the Nemophila field is the official character of the Osaka Maishima Seaside Park "Nemophila Festival," "Nemo-nyan".
There are "Nemo-nyan" figures in various poses, so I started having fun looking for "Nemo-nyan" along the way♪
I like the one in the top left running with a smile the best, but the one lying down with its chin in its hand is also cute~♪
At that time, a few cherry blossoms were still remaining, and I could see the collaboration between cherry blossoms and Nemophila.
There are also photogenic sweets.

⭐ [Stay] "The Day Osaka" Log House

There are no regular residences or apartment buildings on Maishima, but there are accommodations.
The first one is "The Day Osaka" (formerly Hotel Lodge Maishima).
First, check in at the main building.
Log houses scattered around the pond, the Annex Nest, and the main building (Japanese-style and Western-style rooms).
I stayed in a log house on this day.
The great thing about this log house is that it has two entrances and can be connected inside.
On this day, we were able to stay together despite being split into left and right sides, with 4 women and 4 men (accommodates 6-10 people).
2 bedrooms x 2 units, for a total of 4 bedrooms if connected.
There is a large sofa when you go up to the second floor.
A dresser and a bathroom.
There is a lounge and library where you can freely drink your favorite tea or coffee, and you can also take them to your room.
Dinner was BBQ!
You can do it in the BBQ space in front of your room, but there is also a roofed BBQ space a short walk away that can be used for day trips. Since there were many of us, we chose the easy plan that requires no preparation or cleanup.

And another one is "PALM GARDEN MAISHIMA".
What's unique is that you can stay in a trailer house.
I received photos from a friend who has actually stayed there.
Wow!
The trailer and wood deck come as a set.
It seems it is fully equipped with a mini kitchen, table, bed, TV, sofa, and shower & toilet.

And BBQ, that's nice♪
I can picture a dad grinning while watching his wife and children having fun~♪
This trailer house is apparently from the luxury American camping car brand "Airstream".
I was surprised when I read about it!
It has a design with low air resistance, and they even pulled it with a bicycle to prove it!?
During World War II, there was a severe aluminum shortage, and out of 400 camping trailer manufacturers before the war, "Airstream" was the only one that survived!?

⭐ [Play] Sports Kart
An exciting spot in Maishima is the "ISK Osaka" Maishima store.
It is a sports kart track where you can experience being a professional racer on a circuit.
Even though it's a go-kart, you can reach speeds of about 60-70 km/h, and because your line of sight is so low, the perceived speed is a whopping 120 km/h!
There are various courses available, such as a 1-hour unlimited ride course and time attacks.
Also, for private rentals, it's great that you can freely arrange the time, such as using the first 15 minutes for practice and free driving, and the remaining time for time attacks.
I once visited with friends from Osaka, and since it was more fun than expected, I revisited it with car and racing-loving friends who came from Tokyo.
You can enjoy it alone, as a couple, with family, or by renting the whole track.
We rented the track for 10 people!
When actually driving, in addition to the full-face helmet that can be rented for free, you need a face mask and gloves (set price 700 yen), which can be purchased at the reception on the day.
The ISK gloves are like cotton work gloves, so you can bring your own.
For my second visit, I brought my own work gloves that I used during the bridge tour to the top of the main tower of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
Since we are a group of competitive friends, everyone gets serious when it comes to racing!
The curves are your chance to change your ranking!
It's a dead heat with collisions and spins!
Even if you go in a large group and have to wait for your turn, or if you are just watching, you can watch the race on the indoor monitors.
You can also get the time measurement data for each person, and if you rent the course privately, there are trophies for 1st to 3rd place!
When I went for the second time, a woman came alone to practice, and I was surprised because she was so fast!

Like me in the past, many people probably have a strong image of Maishima as BBQ and Sports Island.
Indeed, there are many sports facilities.
The one I have been to is the tennis court at "Mizuno Sports Plaza Maishima".
It is very clean.

It really is a sports island!

I will introduce these two places if you are thinking of having a meal or tea around Maishima.

"SHIMA CAFE" is located right near Maishima Seaside Park, where the Nemophila Festival is held.
It is on the first floor of the Maishima Craft Center, and "Nemo-nyan" greets you at the entrance.
Here, they have the "Nemo Parfait," which is apparently Nemo-nyan's favorite food?"Nemo Parfait" My four friends and I had actually already eaten lunch. But I wanted to take pictures and was wondering if someone would eat it, and as if they felt my pressure, a friend ordered it (lol).
At the Maishima Craft Center, there are various workshops such as pottery wheel experiences, and I'm sure the pottery that holds this parfait was also made here.
The Maishima Crepe is also incredibly voluminous!
When you cut the fondant au chocolat with a knife, the chocolate oozes out from inside♪

🔷 "Cafe & Dining Hemingway"
Another recommendation is "Cafe & Dining Hemingway."
This is anocean-view restaurantfacing the Osaka Hokko Marina, just across the Tsuneyoshi Bridge from Maishima. The soup curry is packed with vegetables and the chicken is tender. The bread that comes with the pasta set is a small pink berry bread.
There are also pasta sets such as boiled whitebait peperoncino and pescatore.
The interior is stylish, and there is also a spacious terrace where you can have a BBQ.
There is even a poolside BBQ plan!
And apparently, dogs are allowed at these poolside seats.
In the back, you could see the "Maishima Plant" waste treatment facility and the sludge center.
