I'm often asked, 'How do you get 10,000 followers on note?', so I gave it some thought.
Today, I had a conversation about note with Kanazawa-san, a writer I met at the Web Writer Lab.
Even though she only started writing on note about three months ago, she has already surpassed 20,000 monthly views, making her an incredibly rising star in the web writer community currently using note.
Kanazawa-san, who is on such a meteoric rise, asked me a question.
How did you get 10,000 followers on note?
I get asked this question a lot.
From April 2021 until I became a web writer in October 2023, I was completely immersed in the world of note.
Since becoming a web writer, I only write about one article a month on note, but people I've met since then often ask me this question along with comments like, 'Your note is amazing!'
I've decided to summarize what I thought about after receiving this question from Kanazawa-san.
1 | Make friends to write note with
The reason I started writing on note was because a community I belonged to at the time launched an initiative called 'Let's all write on note!'
Having had the experience of writing on Ameblo since my days as an actor, I decided to give note a try, and it turned out to be more fun than I had imagined.
Before long, conversations when meeting community members started with, 'I read your note!'
When I read the notes of other community members, I learned about their personalities and past experiences through their writing, and conversations starting with 'I read your note!' increased.
Even now that I'm an adult, the shy child I once was sometimes makes an appearance, and I still struggle to initiate conversations with people myself.
Writing on note allows people to get to know me and serves as a conversation starter, so I enjoyed writing on note.
The number of followers on note doesn't increase in just a few months.
Before increasing your follower count, it's important to keep writing on note, isn't it?
I believe that making friends who are writing on note just like you is essential to keep writing on note.
2 | Meet people and have interesting experiences
In 2021, when I was putting the most effort into note, I was posting almost every day.
One of the reasons I was able to post every day was that I had decided, 'I'm going to write on note every day!'
But beyond that, I think it was largely because I had time to meet people and talk to them, attending drinking parties, sports events, seminars, and lectures almost every day.
When I meet people, I often think, 'I want to write a note on this topic' during our conversations, or when I listen to others, I feel the urge to 'write and summarize what I've learned on note before I forget it,' so the material for my notes came naturally.
Even now, when I feel like writing a note, it's usually after I've met someone or attended a seminar and heard someone speak.
When you hear a good story or have an interesting experience, you want to say, 'Hey, listen to this!' don't you?
As a reader of note, articles about personal experiences like 'this happened to me' are also interesting.
I just talked about note with Kanasawa-san today, so my writing is flowing well.
To 'increase followers,' it is important that people who visit your note think, 'This person seems interesting!'
People who were always surrounded by others in class at school, the naturally interesting ones since childhood, are few and far between.
However, I think anyone can be seen as 'interesting' by taking action themselves and having 'interesting experiences.'
To write interesting articles, let's meet people and have interesting experiences.
3 | The desire to test my own abilities
I think the passion of the writer is important for a note to be read.
The reason I kept writing on note came from my past experiences.
When I was in junior high school, I was at the very bottom of the class caste system.
Using the frustration of being constantly mocked as motivation, I moved to Tokyo with the ambition of 'becoming the best from this junior high school when I grow up' and aspired to be an actor.
However, at the age of 24, I gave up on being an actor.
Having moved to Tokyo with high hopes but failing to become anyone, I wanted to pour all my energy into something to 'test my own abilities.'
When I started writing on note in the community, I thought, 'I want to have the best track record on note in this community!'

I started posting every day from the middle of May 2021, and while I had 41 articles in June, I actually wrote 100. (I have hidden the articles that I felt were shallow when looking back at them later.)
I wouldn't go to sleep until I finished writing my note, and when I didn't have time, I would write on the morning commuter train.
As a result, within a community of nearly 200 people, I was consistently ranked first in both note view counts and follower growth.
Furthermore, I was selected as a seminar instructor and was in charge of lecturing on how to grow a note account.
I think the passion of 'I haven't become anyone yet, but I want to leave behind some kind of achievement' was poured into the articles I wrote at the time and reached those who read them.
Summary | Looking back
As I wrote in this article, creating an environment where you can keep writing notes and having passion are also important for increasing your follower count.
Through this experience, I began to want to make writing my job, and I became a web writer.
Recently, I've been prioritizing web writing, so my note posting frequency had dropped, but after talking with Kanasawa-san, I thought, 'note really is great after all.'
I think I will start restarting my posts on note little by little again.
