The Walk-off Game of the Decider
Four games remaining this season.
The gap between us and the league-leading Ishikawa Million Stars is a mere 1.5 games.
The Toyama GRN Thunderbirds, belonging to the independent Nihonkai League, won the first half of the season and are eager to carry that momentum into an overall championship, but they have been treading water with a string of losses.
If they miss out on winning the second half, it will lead to a playoff series, consisting of three games after the regular season ends, where they must win two out of three.
Fully aware of this, both team benches are tense before the game, yet wrapped in a heat that rivals the unseasonably sweltering weather.
Pitcher Ryota Michizaki, making his first start in his 49th appearance, is unfazed by the pressure, delivering a solid performance of three innings with four strikeouts and no runs allowed.
In contrast, Ishikawa Million Stars pitcher Daichi Fujii also fulfills his role as a starter, pitching six innings with six strikeouts and two runs allowed.

There were two misjudgments by the first-base umpire.
The first was a safety bunt by Ishikawa Million Stars player Ryusei Suzuki, which was initially called an out but overturned to safe after a challenge.
The second was a towering fly ball hit by Ishikawa Million Stars player Taisei Ueda near the right-field pole, which was initially ruled a home run, but the head umpire made the final decision that it was a foul without even needing to check the replay.
Furthermore, there were two hit-by-pitches, and while the game could easily have turned volatile, players from both teams remained composed, reacting calmly without getting emotional.
The field, where one could feel the respect between the umpiring crew and the players, was filled with a refreshing atmosphere, fitting for a pristine showdown.
After that, the score progressed to 3 runs for the Ishikawa Million Stars and 2 runs for the Toyama GRN Thunderbirds by the top of the 8th inning, and the weight of every single run pressed heavily on both teams.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Toyama GRN Thunderbirds' fearsome 9th-place hitter, Kiichi Tamau,
hit a 2-run timely single to left field, successfully turning the game around to 3-4, but in the top of the 9th, Ishikawa Million Stars player Shion Otsubo hit a strong ball through the gap between shortstop and third base to tie the game at 4-4.
The Nihonkai League has no extra innings, so if it ends here, the 1.5-game gap remains.
In the bottom of the 9th, after Goki Nemoto reached base on a second-base error, the next batter, Shun Takimoto, executed a skillful sacrifice bunt on the first pitch. One out, runner on second.
After the fourth-place hitter Tatsuya Miyoshi was intentionally walked and then struck out swinging, Taichi Koga hit an infield single to shortstop, loading the bases with two outs.
Stepping up to the plate is Yusei Sakai.
Before this at-bat, he had struck out swinging in both of his previous appearances, and since the start of the second half, he had been in a hitting slump and was even removed from the roster due to an injury sustained when he crashed into the wall while trying to catch a home-run-bound ball in left field.
Even so, he never lost his spirit, silently swinging his bat and solidifying his form.

Foul, ball, foul, foul, ball, foul.
On the seventh pitch, after matching the timing and hanging in there, he swung through a 133km slider to the opposite field for a walk-off hit, causing the players on the bench to rejoice and rush onto the field.
The underlying strength that turned a losing game, a potential draw, into a winning game.
Three games left.
The games that cannot be lost continue.
