[Personal Development] My last day as a company employee. I am releasing a free web service born from a single comment by my wife, designed to let you immerse yourself in the world's great paintings.
Hello, I am Mamoru Memeto.
March 31st. Today is the last day I can call myself a company employee.
I am leaving the company I have worked at for 16 years,
but surprisingly, I don't feel sad at all.
Perhaps it is because I have done a lot of self-reflection during my leave,
and the next path of starting my own business next January has become clearly visible.
On such a milestone day, I am releasing a new web service.
On a smartphone, you can simply swipe up and down
to encounter one copyright-free masterpiece after another, sleeping in museums around the world.
You don't need any difficult knowledge.
I just want you to bathe in beautiful things.
That is the thought with which I created this.
What I want versus what others want
The service I released the other day, 'Boto Shushukan (Opening Collection Museum)',
was born from the feeling that 'it would be nice to have' a service
where I could bathe in just the opening lines of novels.
When I had my wife use the Opening Collection Museum, she said this to me:
“Text is nice, but I would love to be able to just look at paintings with this same feeling.”
Inspired by that comment, I started development so that my wife could use it.
The process of imagining another person's perspective and designing an experience that they would find comfortable. It felt similar to those days when I was a novice designer, before I became a planning professional.
While looking back on those days, it felt like returning to my roots,
a pure and fresh sensation.
That is how the second installment, 'Meiga Shushukan (Masterpiece Collection Museum),' was completed.
When I finished it and had my wife use it, I heard her muttering
'Oh, I might like this' while swiping the screen.
I'm glad I worked hard to make it (laughs).
Intentionally not letting users search by artist name. Designing for 'accidental encounters'.
How to use it is the same as the Opening Collection Museum I introduced the other day.
Just by swiping up and down on your smartphone screen,
you can encounter one after another
copyright-free masterpieces housed in the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and others.
This time, I intentionally omitted the 'sort by artist name' function.
This is because the concept is not to search for a specific painter or painting,
but to have an accidental encounter with a piece you've never seen before.
That said, accessibility is also important.
The first 20 works are famous pieces that you have likely seen at least once.
I designed it so that you can start with the sense of security of 'Oh, I know this,' and from there, keep swiping to enter a world of masterpieces you have yet to see.
The functions are simple.
・If you find a piece that moves you, press the heart to display it in 'My Gallery'.
・Tap the image to zoom in until you can see the brushstrokes.
・With 'Today's Piece,' you can accidentally encounter a new work every day.
You don't need specialized art knowledge.
Whether you are on your commute or relaxing at night,
I just want you to touch beautiful colors and compositions. I aimed for it to be that kind of place.
This time, I have positioned this as part of the 'Collection Museum Series' along with the previous work, 'Opening Collection Museum,' and created a landing page that summarizes the overall worldview.
If you have time, I would be happy if you could take a look at that as well.
The joy of creating what people want
As I have mentioned many times, I am currently recuperating, so I am in a position where I should not be earning money.
Even so, I want to be a GIVER to those who take the time to read this.
Rather than delivering success stories or profitable know-how,
I define my own value as 'creating moments where the actions or perspectives of those who read this change just a little bit'.
This time, by giving shape to the 'wants' of someone close to me,
I would be honored if I could create that moment.
Like the Opening Collection Museum, this service will also be released completely free of charge until I establish my limited liability company next January. There are no ads.
If there is demand, I am thinking of writing about the behind-the-scenes of the development in a separate article.
To suddenly immerse yourself in a world painted by an artist hundreds of years ago.
I would be happy if such an experience could slip into someone's daily life.
Finally
Today, my 16-year career as a company employee ends.
From tomorrow, I will have no title, but I will continue to use this note to deliver things that can be of some help to those who read it.
If you think, 'I'll support his new beginning,'
pressing the 'Like' button at the end would be a great encouragement for me moving forward.
May you have good encounters with masterpieces in your daily life.
