Reflection is Time to Create the Future
When you spend your days chasing after daily tasks, don't you find yourself focusing only on what you couldn't do, thinking, "Ah, I couldn't get this done again today"?
Don't you find your eyes drawn only to the things you failed to accomplish?
I was like that a little while ago, too...
I hadn't touched the things I wanted to solve for a long time,
and I would fall asleep tired without any sense of accomplishment, only for a new day to begin again...
The turning point for me was "reflection."
2026 has started, and it's almost been a month.
For those who only focus on what they couldn't do,
for those who want to achieve their goals this year,
and for those who want to change into a completely different person this year,
I will write about the benefits of taking time once a month to reflect for yourself.
Some people may have the image that "reflection" means digging deep into "things you couldn't do" or "failures."
It's not that kind of "post-mortem meeting"; what I recommend is reflecting on what you "did!"
Small "I did it!" moments are fine!
I think it's good to make a note of them so you don't forget, or write them down in a notebook or diary.
Once a month, look back at them and connect them to the future, like "tomorrow" or "next month."
I think 5 to 10 minutes is plenty of time.
・What was the one "I did it" moment that made you happiest this month?
・This "I did it" seems to have room for growth!
・I want to cherish this "I did it" next month.
That's the kind of feeling you use to reflect.
You can write down your reflections,
record them in a voice memo,
or quietly ask yourself questions in your own heart.
I write them in a notebook (very) simply, but why not start by establishing the habit of "setting aside time for reflection"?
Then, you'll start to realize, "Actually, I was working pretty hard!"
This is the benefit of reflection.
It's certainly nice to be praised by others saying, "You're working hard!", but that is ultimately someone else's yardstick.
Small actions,
slight changes,
efforts that no one else notices and only you know about,
don't you think it's revolutionary to be able to find those for yourself?
I am still a beginner at "reflection," but
I feel that as I repeat the process, the resolution regarding my own emotions and sensations increases,
and I am becoming able to carefully receive my realizations and changes.
Taking time to face yourself is a way of treating yourself with care.
When I was busy chasing tasks, time just slipped away without me ever organizing my emotions or the events that happened...
I believe the benefits of "reflection" can be as great as you make them.
Five minutes to reflect on your month is time spent creating your future. Why not try "reflecting" for your own sake?
