#28 First, you must learn to enjoy everything
Hello, this is Masumin Jasmine♪
There was an episode like this in Kotaro Hisui's book, "Start Your Life Over Again: Comeback to Purity."
It was a story about a friend of Mr. Hisui.
When he took his son skiing,
"This is how you get better at skiing,"
he said, trying to make him do basic practice, but his 7-year-old son replied,
"Dad, first you have to learn to enjoy skiing, right?"
He was told that.
In response to that, Mr. Hisui says this:
"The purpose is to enjoy it. And once you know the joy, people will naturally make efforts and find ways on their own."
Furthermore, he introduces a quote by William Feather.
"He who enjoys life has no failures."
Exactly, exactly, that's so true!
The same goes for studying and school.
I think that first-graders in elementary school should just spend their first year experiencing the joy of studying, learning, and school.
Studying and learning are essentially exciting and fun things, like finding out about things you didn't know or having new experiences.
Actually, when I was in elementary school, I liked studying.
Partly because I was naturally curious, but it was very exciting to be taught things I didn't know and to see my knowledge grow.
So, even though I was delicate, lonely, and had selective mutism, I wanted to attend class.
Because only during class could I raise my hand and speak up on my own.
Of course, there were no smartphones or internet back then, so it's natural that the way children study is different from today.
Modern children often know many things before they are even taught in school, thanks to the internet, YouTube, TikTok, and so on.
In that case, I think there should be a different approach.
Even so, if they have their written characters corrected from the first grade or get marked with an X when they make a mistake on a test, of course it won't be fun.
I think that once a child thinks "I hate studying," they won't be able to absorb anything more, and they won't want to do it on their own.
Also, I think children are sensitive to being compared to others and the atmosphere that says they have to do things just like everyone else.
If those little things pile up, it wouldn't be strange for them to eventually feel overwhelmed and end up not wanting to study or go to school.
That's why I wish the first step was "learning to enjoy studying and school."
By the way, in Kotaro Hisui's "Start Your Life Over Again!," there is an episode that I personally experienced.
At a bookstore in a shopping center.
A boy around 5th or 6th grade was sitting on the floor reading a book, not just standing and reading.
After a while, his mother came over.
Mother: "We're going home now."
Boy: "Hey, buy me this book, it's interesting."
Mother: "No, you bought a book the other day."
Boy: "Come on, it's really interesting! Buy it for me!"
Mother: "I'm not buying it! We're going home now!"
The boy hung his head and left the bookstore with his mother.
I was curious about the pink-covered book the boy said was interesting, so I picked up the book he had been reading on the floor, and it was this "Start Your Life Over Again!"
It wouldn't hurt to buy him one book...
But every family has their own circumstances...
Should I say, "I'll buy it, please give it to your son"...
My thoughts were racing, but I thought it would be scary to have a stranger buy a book for him, and besides, I didn't have the courage.
Instead, I took the very book the boy was reading to the register, bought it, and brought it home with me^^
And that's how I was able to write this article.
I am grateful to him and his mother.
And Kotaro Hisui is amazing for writing a book that even an elementary school child finds interesting~
I hope this episode reaches Mr. Hisui himself someday^^
I hope that the boy who gave me the chance to read this book can read it at a library or somewhere else^^
And I hope that one day I will be able to post a link to the book^^
(I will add it once I am able to)
Here is a photo instead.

(Yay! I was able to post the link!)
Thank you for reading to the end this time as well.
Today, too, stay soft and relaxed¨̮ and keep smiling♪¨̮
