My note header image keeps getting cut off. After trial and error with ChatGPT and a push from a comment, I'm trying again!

The header image for my note wasn't fitting right, so I intended to 'lay it to rest'.

However, a single comment I received inspired me to give it another shot.
I'll look back on the difficulty of header images that I learned through repeated revisions, and the trial and error it took to finally reach a point where I could say, 'I did it!'

I intended to 'lay it to rest'

In the bonus section of my previous article, I wrote about the header image for my creator page.

Here is that image.

It's an image depicting myself dressed as Huang Zhong alongside an AI warlord, accompanied by the phrase, 'One should grow more vigorous as one ages.'

You can start something new at any age.

I created it with that sentiment in mind.
However, when I tried setting it on my creator page, it just wouldn't fit properly.

Even though I made it to the recommended size, it ended up like this...
  • My head is invisible

  • The bow is cut off

  • Part of the text disappears from the screen

  • Unlike me, you can barely see anything but the head of the AI warlord

...and various other things (lol)

When I shrunk it so the whole thing would be visible, the margins on the left and right looked empty.

No matter how many times I adjusted it, it didn't turn out as I imagined,
so in my previous article, I wrote, 'Please let me lay this to rest.'

At that point, I really intended to give up.

'You can probably do something about the header'

However, I received this comment.

You can probably do something about the header.

It was a short message.

However, because someone told me that I "could probably do it," I decided to give it one more try.

Even though I thought it was "impossible" myself, it's a strange thing.

And, the person who left this comment just happened to be writing an article about header images.
They also kindly agreed to let me introduce it in my article.
Thank you so much 🙇

  1. "Header not set"

  2. "Header is getting cut off in the middle"

  3. "I want to make my current header a little better"

They introduce examples of creating header images using AI for these three cases, using actual creator pages as subjects.

And, believe it or not...!
As the third example, they even featured my header image 😭✨

I never imagined that an image I was about to "lay to rest" would appear in another article as an example of improvement (lol).

They turned it into a very wonderful, dynamic image, so please check it out!

It seems they are also considering a service to create header images within note in the future.

For those of you who, like me, are struggling with header images not fitting properly,
those who want to try making one from now on,
or those who want to review a header you made before...

if you're interested, please take a look!

Just using the recommended size wasn't the end of it

Now, here is where the problem starts.

"What do I need to fix so it fits well on the creator page?"

At first, I didn't know that.

note header images have a recommended size
(note Help Center "Creator Page/Magazine Header Image").

I had assumed that "if I match the recommended size, it will display beautifully."

However, even though it fits perfectly on the image registration screen, when I press "Use this image" and check the creator page, the head or text is cut off.

"It was all visible just a moment ago, so why?"

After trying a few times, I realized the entire image isn't displayed as is; in the environment I checked, the visible area changes depending on the screen width.

Simply matching the recommended size wasn't enough.

I remade it while trying over and over again.

As I gradually understood the cause, I decided to recreate the image.

I changed the size of the character and the position of the text, then checked it on the actual creator page.

If it didn't work, I fixed it again.

Repeating this several times, I adjusted it while keeping the atmosphere of the original image as much as possible.

And finally, I reached a point where I thought, 'This might work.'

All that was left was to see how it looked on the actual creator page.

And finally, it fit.

I set the adjusted image and opened the creator page.

This time, I can see everything from the tip of the bow to the feet.

The AI warlord and the text are both properly contained.

'I did it...!'

Looking at the screen, I couldn't help but do a little dance by myself.

The image I wrote about as a 'tribute' in my previous article has successfully become the face of my creator page.

It might just be a small thing.

But for me, it was a truly happy moment.

What I learned from this failure

I learned three things this time.

  1. Consider the recommended size and the actual display area separately

  2. Check the actual display while adjusting it repeatedly

  3. Even if you think you can't do it, a word from someone else can get you moving again

And this time, the third point was the most significant for me.

I'm glad it didn't end as a 'memorial'

Create, register, see it get cut off, and redo it.

Looking back, I think this was exactly what I wrote about in my previous article:

Try, fail, and learn

It feels like it was just that.

Since I started note, I have encountered 'I don't know' many times.

I don't know if I should click 'Like'.
I don't know if I should leave a comment.
I don't know how to set the image.

Each time, I tried, failed, and learned a little bit at a time.

But this time, if I had worried about it alone, I think I really would have just 'memorialized' it and ended it there, as I wrote in my previous article.

Pushed by a single comment, I was able to try one more time.

'Maybe, I can manage somehow.'

I want to remember these words whenever I stumble upon something in the future.
And I also want to be the kind of person who can say,

'Maybe, you can manage somehow'

when someone else is about to give up.

I would be happy if you could take a look at my new header image on my creator page 💖

Thank you so much for reading this far.
If you enjoyed it even a little, letting me know with a Like ♥️ would be a great encouragement.
Have you ever had an experience where a word from someone else made you think, 'I'll try one more time'?
Or, I would love to hear stories about where you stumbled when you first started note.
If you'd like, please let me know in the comments. 😊✨
