There is only one standard for work: "Whether I enjoy it or not"

🌻The "decisions" we make 35,000 times a day
"What should I eat for breakfast?"
"Which video should I watch?"
"What should I wear today?"
From such trivial daily matters to,
"Which email should I reply to first?"
"What should I say in the meeting?"
"How should I react to this person?"
To every possible situation at work,
we make many decisions every day, don't we?
I was curious about just how many choices and decisions we make, so I looked it up.
According to research by Professor Barbara Sahakian of the University of Cambridge, we actuallymake up to 35,000 decisions a day!!
...35,000 times!!!!
Even if that includes unconscious ones, it's an incredible number, isn't it?
🌻My standard for choosing a job is "whether I can enjoy it"
Unlike simple daily choices like whether to eat bread or rice, there are not many people who can make "important life choices" like choosing a school or a career overnight.
I also thought a lot and made many choices to get to where I am now.
What standard did you use
to choose your current job?
For me, it is this.
" Whether I can enjoy it".
...Actually, I assumed when I was a student that everyone chose that way.
As I conducted many interviews as a TV director, I learned that everyone has their own circumstances and ways of thinking, and that in fact, many people do not choose based on this standard...
Back to the topic, my standard for choosing a job.
When I was job hunting, I imagined it.
What kind of company would I be in and how would I be working... how could I work happily.
Then, the following selection criteria came to mind.
★I can spend every day full of change
★I can go to various places
★I don't have to wear a suit or uniform
★I don't get caught in the commuting/returning rush
At this point, civil servants with fixed hours and weekends off, bank employees, or desk-based administrative jobs were not in my options (I respect those who can do it...✨).
And on top of this, what I valued was
"Doing work that I think is 'I like it! It's interesting! It's fun!'"
This is the one thing I absolutely cannot compromise on.
Because even if the ★ criteria were met, if I didn't think the work itself was interesting or that I liked it, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it... in other words, I wouldn't be able to continue for a long time.

In my case, when I was a university student, I traveled around all 47 prefectures by motorcycle and wanted to share the charm of traveling! I thought, 'There are still so many wonderful places in Japan that people don't know about! I want to share this feeling!' I believed that television was the best way to convey this to more people, so I applied to a company that produces travel programs, made a connection, and became a director.
(Please check this article for details👇✨)
Since then, I have gone from being a company employee to a freelancer, my base has moved from Kansai to Hokuriku, the programs have changed in various ways, and even after giving birth and raising children, I have been able to continue my work as a director for 23 years until now becauseI believe it is because I have always made choices based on my own will.
🌻 Work becomes fun when you choose based on your 'self-axis'
'What do I think?'
'What is important to me?'
'What kind of way do I want to work?'
While taking others' opinions into account, when you make decisions with 'I' as the subject, your job satisfaction increases, and you can make consistent choices in your career development that value your own values.
So, what if it's the opposite?
'Because it's a well-known company in society'
'Because it's a company (profession) recommended by my parents or teachers'
'Because I was invited by someone and couldn't refuse'
and so on.If you prioritize or base your decisions on the opinions, evaluations, or expectations of 'others,' you may end up thinking, 'It's not what I thought (what I heard)...' or 'I don't feel a sense of fulfillment,' and you may end up being swayed by someone else, exhausted, and changing jobs frequently (this does not mean that changing jobs is bad).

When you choose both work and life based on 'what I want to do,' you feel a sense of conviction and can enjoy it from the heart and continue for a long time!
This is an important realization I've gained from my own real-life experience and the commonalities among the people in various professions I've met during my 23 years of television reporting✨
🌻 When you are unsure about your own standards...
If you are currently wondering,
'Am I really okay as I am now?'
'Whose standards am I choosing by...?'
'I can't clearly say what I like or what is fun...'
then it might be a chance to stop for a moment and re-examine your 'own standards'.
