A little bit about myself... | Floating in an open-air bath in the rain | Clairvoyant Senior and the story of invisible ripples of aging | Introduction to Aging Training
Actually, I was planning to go on a longer trip today.
I used to go there all the time, but I haven't been to
Hyakukannon Onsen in Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture, lately.
It takes nearly three hours round trip, so it's a bit of a hassle (laughs).
It is a nationally famous
and quite potent hot spring, said to be good for lower back pain, joint pain, and difficulty walking.
However.
I completely overslept (sweat).
So, I changed my plans and decided to
GO! to a carbonated spring I've been visiting often lately, which is about a two-hour round trip.
As usual, I was hoping to
pick up some conversation from the seniors while floating in the bath facility, but perhaps due to the rain,
there were surprisingly few people.
There are no seniors.
There are hardly any customers either.
This is a problem.
The "senior," who is the core of the Thursday series, is not here.
Usually, there is a senior somewhere in the carbonated spring or open-air bath who drops a hint about life, but today it was almost entirely to myself.
This is a luxury in its own right.
However, it's a problem for the article.
I have... no material...
While thinking about that, I got into the open-air bath and stared blankly at the surface of the water.
Rainwater was dripping one drop at a time from the edge of the roof.
Plop.
Plop...
Plop...
It falls onto the surface of the water.
From there, a circular ripple spreads out.
Plop, again.
Again, the ripples spread out.
Watching that, I suddenly remembered someone.
The genius, Professor Kenjiro Kimura.
In my mind, that's what I like to call him.
My 'seer' senior.
A senior who reads the invisible from ripples.
Professor Kimura is a genius mathematician who tries to see the invisible through the reactions of 'waves'.
He is.
Professor at the Center for Mathematical and Data Sciences at Kobe University, Visiting Fellow and Specially Appointed Professor at the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere at Kyoto University, and Representative Director of Integral Geometry Science, Inc.
The inverse problem of wave scattering.
Even if you hear it, you don't really understand it.
Even if you listen closely, you still don't understand (laughs.
He is the genius who solved such a very difficult, long-unsolved problem in the history of applied mathematics.
By hitting an object with waves, such as radio waves, and deciphering the scattered waves that return, he visualizes the internal structure.
Simply put, it is research that attempts to visualize things that cannot be seen from the outside by using the reactions of waves.
This is being applied to various fields, such as breast cancer screening and non-destructive testing.
I have solved an incredible problem that can even be applied to mineral exploration deep underground.
Furthermore, it even touches upon the realization of a time machine.
Normally, if something is invisible, that is the end of it.
However, Clairvoyant Senior does not stop there.
If you cannot see it, you just have to observe the reaction.
If you cannot see inside directly, you just have to read the ripples that appear on the outside.
These ripples differ depending on the invisible substance.
And by reading those ripples, it is a dream-like story where you can understand what the invisible substance is.
This way of thinking is very interesting.
While watching raindrops falling on the surface of the open-air bath, I was thinking a little about my body.
Perhaps the body is the same, I thought.
Invisible decline appears as small ripples.
Invisible decline does not appear in a visible form all of a sudden.
It does not mean that everything breaks down suddenly one day.
At first, it appears like small ripples.
My lower back feels a little heavy.
I feel a little uneasy about my knees.
I find myself putting my hand down when I stand up.
I choose the escalator over the stairs.
My stride becomes a little shorter.
It becomes harder to stand on one leg when putting on socks.
I get tired more easily than before.
These things are often dismissed as just 'because of my age'.
Of course, there are changes that come with age.
That cannot be helped.
But saying 'it can't be helped because of my age' in your 60s feels a bit too early.
If you are over 90, those words carry weight.
By the way, my father still does his best to walk 7,000 steps.
He is currently 91 years old.
However, if you give up on your body too early in your 60s or at the start of your 70s, the next 10 or 20 years will change significantly.
By the time you realize it, you might have already entered a path of frailty.
I want to resist that a little.
The muscle strength that supports daily life, seen through my mother's hospitalization
Since my mother was hospitalized, I have felt closer to the hospital as a place than before (I have had no connection with doctors for 36 years, except for the dentist).
What you see there is not just the illness itself.
The strength to get up from bed.
The strength to walk to the restroom.
The strength to eat.
The strength to maintain posture.
The strength to stand for a little while.
In short, it is the muscle strength that supports your daily life.
When you are hospitalized, your amount of movement naturally decreases.
There are times when bed rest is necessary.
However, for the elderly, time spent not moving easily leads directly to muscle loss.
Regaining muscle strength once it has been lost is much harder than when you were young.
That is precisely why, before you are hospitalized.
Before you fall.
Before you become unable to walk.
I believe it is important to use your body little by little while you still think, "I'm still fine."
AI can provide knowledge. But it cannot move your body for you.
This is where it connects to the topic of AI.
We live in truly convenient times now.
If you ask AI, it will explain nutrition, cooking, and recipes quite clearly.
In the past, you would have had to start by researching "what should I eat?"
Reading books, searching for literature, looking up nutrients, finding cooking methods from there, and actually trying to make it.
This alone is quite a rigorous training process.
Honestly, many people probably dropped out at the nutrition research stage before even getting to muscle training.
But it is different now.
For example,
"Tell me some simple meals for the elderly that are easy to get protein from."
If you ask, candidates will come up immediately.
Moreover, unlike the strange, stereotypical, and suspicious claims often found in old media advertisements—like "eating X will make you Y"—it is even possible to create a plan tailored to the individual.
It is even possible to design a plan tailored to the individual.
People who dislike vegetables.
Conversely, people who dislike meat.
Humans have various constitutions.
Content designed for a large audience, like on TV, inevitably leaves some people out, but this can cover those points as well.
but this can cover those points as well.
This is truly amazing.
The gateway to knowledge has opened up in a way that cannot be compared to the past.
However.
No matter how excellent AI is, there is one thing it cannot do for you.
That is moving your own body.
AI can provide recipes.
It can think of ingredient combinations for you.
It can also teach you about protein and nutritional concepts.
But it cannot do a single squat for you.
It cannot build the leg strength to climb a single step on its own.
Stiff hip joints will not change unless you move them yourself.
What you put into your mouth is very important.
There is no doubt that it is the foundation for building your body.
But food alone cannot complete a "body that can move."
Muscles only respond when they are used.
Joints only maintain their range of motion when they are moved.
Posture only returns when you consciously maintain it.
In other words, AI provides knowledge.
Food provides the materials.
But the final step to building a body that can move is something you have to do yourself.
The story of what I call 'Aging Training'
There is something I have taken to calling 'Aging Training'.
Rather than training to fight against aging, it is about relearning how to use your body so you aren't swallowed by it.
Standing.
Walking.
Squatting.
Getting up.
Climbing stairs.
It is about reminding your body of the movements you used to do without a second thought when you were younger.
That is what I consider 'Aging Training'.

I believe this is the gateway to Aging Training.
I am not aiming to become a muscular bodybuilder.
Oh, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being muscular (laughs).
For young people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, appearance is important, and since summer is coming up, when muscles really make a statement, I think you should go for it.
Of course, the pectorals are important (laughs).
As I wrote in the episode about Pocky-senpai, it's better to have a body that serves as a solid bodysuit for the soul.
However, the muscles I'm aiming for aren't like those of a young person.
A star for the early elderly.
This level is just right.
"Oh, so you can still move at this age."
"Even as you get older, you can still build your body little by little."
"You don't have to just accept it and give up."
I hope to be a sample that makes people think that.
That is what I am thinking about.
And, as I know from my own experience, no matter how old you get, muscles will never betray you.
And they will continue to grow.
No matter how old you are.
Clairvoyant-senpai, who was beyond the ripples of the rain
Today, the usual senior was not in the open-air bath.
But there were ripples from the rain.
Beyond those ripples, there was Clairvoyant-senpai.
Just because something is invisible doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Perhaps it is just that I do not yet know how to read it.
The decline of the body may be the same.
Before it appears as a major problem, it emerges as small ripples.
Heaviness in the lower back.
Anxiety in the knees.
Changes in stride.
How one stands up.
Shallowness of breath.
Susceptibility to fatigue.
Without overlooking such small signs, I am gradually re-reading my own body.
And then, I try moving just a little bit.
Stand.
Walk.
Squat.
Use the stairs a little.
Move the hip joints slowly.
Try straightening the back.
I believe that such small accumulations will help my future self.
AI organizes invisible information.
Clairvoyant Senior tries to see invisible things through the reactions of waves.
And so, we read the small ripples appearing on our own bodies.
Thinking of it that way, perhaps Aging Training is not just simple muscle training.
It is a daily observation to see through to your future self.
That is what I feel.
I thought my senior wasn't here today.
But perhaps, they were.
Raindrops falling onto the surface of the hot water.
The ripples spreading out from there.
And, the Clairvoyant Senior who was on the other side of it all.
Floating in the rainy open-air bath, I was thinking about such things.
