I decided to graduate from being a company employee and set my life in motion.
In 2025, at the age of 40, I started my own business.
And now, one year later.
At the end of March 2026, I will graduate from being a company employee.
For my first note, I would like to write about the year I decided to set my life in motion.
Until now, I have worked in the field of education.
Consulting with people, listening to their career stories, and pushing those who are trying to take on new challenges.
Seeing people realize their own potential, change little by little, and start moving in the direction they want to go.
I have always loved being involved in that process.
Precisely because I felt both fulfillment and pride in that work, I could no longer overlook the sense of discomfort that had sprouted regarding my own way of working.
But the discomfort that something was different
For the past few years, there has been a sense of discomfort I have felt while working.
Is my own life actually moving?
While working a job that supports other people's challenges, I myself have been
working in the same place
living the same life
living as a stable company employee
Of course, that was something to be very grateful for.
But a sense of discomfort began to sprout.
Discomfort is not something that immediately turns into an answer, and before I knew it, it had remained within me for years.
"I want to work more freely in various places with just a PC."
"I want to grow while interacting with more diverse people."
"I want to build my life with my own power, without being bound by anything."
This was the catalyst for starting my current work.
It is my starting point, which I cannot forget even if I try.
The reason I started my business at 40
While carrying that sense of discomfort, I have also been continuing a side job little by little while working as a company employee.
I actually started my side job in 2019.
It began with receiving work through acquaintances.
Writing blogs, doing web production, and thinking about ways of working—I didn't start my business immediately, but rather continued it as a side job, keeping my company work as my main focus.
However, the last year or two have been a little different.
Multiple requests overlapped, and my side income grew all at once.
Before I knew it, there were times when my monthly side income significantly exceeded my monthly salary as an employee.
It was temporary, but for me, it was enough of a catalyst.
The image of "myself working freely with just a PC and living like I'm traveling" became clear.
For example, I started thinking about things like this.
As a side job, I don't have enough time.
I love the work itself, but I can't see any further growth, and the days just go by without anything changing.
The fact that there are many people I want to work with outside of my current workplace.
If I let the year end like this, I'll just repeat the same old routine again...
On the other hand, the image of "myself working freely with just a PC and living like I'm traveling" was becoming increasingly vivid.
End of December 2025.
I made the firm decision to resign from the company where I had worked for a total of about 17 years.
If I did nothing now, I could see myself ten-plus years from now regretting it, thinking:
"Why couldn't I decide to quit back then?"
"I really wanted to try working like this."
"I should have lived more honestly with my heart."
To be honest, I am anxious.
About future income.
About national health insurance and national pension.
Whether I will be able to encounter connections that lead to work.
If I think about it calmly, there are many things to be anxious about.
Mainly money.
But there is also a part of me that thinks this:
"Well, it'll work out somehow! I'll do everything I can."
"If it doesn't work out, I just won't be picky about work."
"I'm not going to die."
I decided to set my life in motion.
The new days that are about to begin
At the end of this month, I will graduate from being a company employee, and from April, I will live as a freelancer.
It took time to get this far, but I have finally reached the point where I can set my own life in motion.
Work freely with just a PC and live like I'm traveling.
The journey to create my own unique lifestyle starts here.
If you'd like, I'd be happy if you came to read the continuation.
I also wrote an article introducing myself again, so please take a look at that too if you'd like.
I have also written about my definition of living like a traveler, so I would be happy if you could read it.
Even though a period of things not going well continued, I now think that it was not in vain. I wrote about that story.
I am also writing about the reality of my first week as a freelancer.
