The problem of what to wear for office casual. A discussion on how it's difficult when you have a mix of remote work, in-person meetings, and desk work.
Don't you find it difficult when you have a mix of remote work, in-person meetings, and desk work?
In the morning, you're on camera for remote work. In the afternoon, you're finishing up documents at a coworking space. In the evening, you're suddenly asked, 'Can we meet in person later today?'
Since the pandemic, remote work has become quite common. Now that we can work from home, cafes, or workspaces without going into the office,
deciding what to wear today has become quite difficult.
For example, when you start a new job, whether through a career change, a transfer, or as a new graduate, you're told to 'come in
office casual attire,' but don't the standards vary wildly depending on the company or the person you're meeting?
There are days when you should lean toward a suit, days when throwing on a jacket is fine, and environments where a polo shirt is sufficient.
I think drawing the line for what is 'just right' is the hardest part.
There are, of course, days when Uniqlo's masterpieces are the right answer. In fact, I think the Comfort Jacket is a masterpiece. But there's the problem that everyone looks the same. Plus, if you wear it for a long time, you naturally start to
feel a bit tired.
Easy jackets and setups have increased, but there are so many similar-looking ones that it makes me feel a bit awkward somewhere... Especially if you put your smartphone, card case, or wallet in your pockets, it loses its shape.
My work and the reality of clothing

My work centers on meetings with clients and producing web advertisements, so I often have business negotiations and dinners. I sometimes have meetings with large corporations, but I almost never wear a full suit.
However, since I often meet with superiors, a jacket is essential.
I also feel that 'it's a shame if your clothes are just mass-produced ordinary items when you're working based on your sense of style.'
On the other hand, there are days when I only have internal meetings or days when I'm working alone at a cafe, so if I'm too formal, I can't keep it up.
'Comfortable but looks professional.' There surprisingly isn't a single piece of clothing that satisfies this.
Breaking down 'just right' (assuming telework as well)
The neck area visible on screen looks neat (doesn't look sloppy)
The back and shoulders don't feel tight during long periods of sitting
Lightweight/breathable/non-clinging so you don't feel tired by the evening
Machine washable, quick-drying, and iron-free
Hands-free storage (without ruining the silhouette)
Works for ON as a set, and OFF as separates
A subtle design that is a step away from mass-market familiarity
That's how I analyzed it... but it's actually quite hard to find something that is truly stylish.
If it doesn't exist, make it.
Since I couldn't find it, I decided to make it.
A "single piece" that fits the way we work now.
A mock neck that looks great on screen, and a subtle sheen
A back tuck design for easy breathing
A hidden pocket that holds your smartphone/business cards/key card (without showing the shape)
Washable and quick-drying. Wrinkles come out easily
Lightness (the kind of jacket that makes you think "wow, light" when you put it on)
General medical device or equivalent recovery wear
Aiming for this, I ended up developing this apparel.
Even after wearing the sample all day for work, I didn't want to take it off in the evening. Honestly, this is amazing for working.
It hits the mark for days like these
Morning: Remote meeting → Afternoon: Cafe work → Evening: In-person meeting
A day of desk work at the office, but with VIPs visiting the floor.
A day working a little on the weekend. Loungewear doesn't get me in the zone, but denim doesn't feel right either, and a suit is definitely not it.
Clothes aren't just about "how you are perceived," they also affect your mood.
Clothes that make you stand 1cm taller. Clothes that make you take one extra deep breath.
Another reason
Now that our work styles have become fragmented, balancing "looking professional" and "comfort" is harder than you'd think.
I wanted a piece of clothing that would quietly help with that.
Clothes that feel like a small reward for your hard work.
I thought it would be nice to have something like that.
