Technics AZ100 1-Year Review: How Was It After Switching from AirPods?

A year goes by faster than you'd think, and it's been about a year since my AirPods Pro 1 broke and I switched to the Technics EAH-AZ100.

So,in this post, I'm going to share a casual 1-year review of the AZ100!

First off, as a major premise,I am extremely satisfied.
Honestly, I haven't felt much dissatisfaction since switching from the AirPods Pro.

Connection and Integration Features

First, let's talk about integration with multiple Apple devices, which is the biggest difference from AirPods.

This was the point I was personally most worried about before buying. But after actually using them, it wasn't as much of an issue as I thought.

I mainly use them with my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook, and they support multipoint connection for up to 3 devices, plus multipairing for up to 10 devices.
So, basically, it automatically switches to whichever device is playing sound.

However, they aren't quite as smooth as AirPods, and there is sometimes a slight delay in switching.
Also, something that bothers me a little is that when you put them back in the case, AirPods disconnect instantly, but the AZ100 can take about 5 seconds, which can be a bit stressful at times.

For example, when I want to take my earphones out and play sound through the device's speakers, this delay is surprisingly noticeable.

Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound Mode

As a general rule, the performance of the AZ100 is quite high.
The noise canceling is strong enough; I feel it's better than the AirPods Pro 1,
and compared to the 2nd generation, it feels about the same or perhaps just a little bit inferior.

What personally bothered me is that it struggles with high-pitched sounds.
It's not great at handling high, sharp sounds like dishes clinking or a can dropping, and there are moments where it feels like the noise canceling cuts out just for that instant.

As for ambient sound mode, AirPods Pro are definitely more natural.
However, the AZ100 is natural enough that you wouldn't notice unless you were listening to them side-by-side.

You might feel a bit of discomfort right after switching from AirPods, but honestly, I think you'll get used to it quickly.

Conclusion

To reiterate, the AZ100 is an earphone with a very high level of satisfaction!

AirPods really feel like the "king," and the overall balance is amazing.
However, unlike that balanced type, the AZ100 has a distinct personality in its sound quality and design, making it an earphone you can truly grow to love!

If the sound quality suits your taste, I think you'll be very satisfied. Highly recommended!

Conversely,

  • if you aren't that particular about sound quality

  • You prefer a normal, natural sound

  • You want to prioritize the balance with functionality

  • You are not very familiar with earphones

For people like this, I honestly think AirPods are a better fit. They are the safest choice.
