I thought blogs would end in the AI era. The reason I restarted my personal blog in its 12th year

Hello, this is Reiji Kuga.

The other day, I opened the Xserver management screen for the first time in a while.

It has been about 12 years since I signed up. In the past, I used to check my search rankings and traffic numbers almost every day, and I would be happy even if the numbers grew just a little.

But for the past few years, I have mostly left it alone.

My main platform for sharing became X, and I also started using note. I published my work on YouTube and created an official website for Project Alive. I thought that was enough, and that I didn't need to keep my personal blog active.

When generative AI started to spread, I even said that the value of blogs might decrease.

If you ask AI, you get an answer on the spot. The number of people who open multiple articles from search results to look for information will decrease.

At the time, I was quite serious about that thought.

A year or two have passed since then, and as I continue to use AI, I have a slightly different perspective now.

The more I use AI, the more I see what lies beyond the text

AI is truly convenient.

I myself have been able to try things I would have given up on before due to a lack of knowledge, such as game development and building blog systems.

However, beyond the answers provided by AI, there is knowledge written by someone, records of actual trials, and warnings left by people who have failed.

Of course, just because you write an article doesn't mean it will be searched for or cited by AI.

Even so, if there is less information left behind, the answers that come back will just become more and more similar. If people don't write down their experiences, the world that AI can pick up won't expand either.

I thought that if AI became widespread, text would become unnecessary, but after using it every day, I have come to feel the necessity of text instead.

It is a bit of an ironic story.

Crossroad could not be captured by video alone

When I thought about this, the metaverse drama Crossroad came to mind.

If you look only at the finished video, what is there is a single story. But behind it lies more than three years of time.

There was a period when it was halted due to rights issues and could not be released. I rebuilt it from there, and in the end, it became a project involving 61 people.

The frustration when it stopped, and the reason I decided to make it again, cannot be understood just by playing the video.

There are emotions in a work that can only be conveyed through the work itself.

On the other hand, there are things that will disappear if they are not put into writing.

Why did I make it? What happened along the way? And yet, why did I want to complete it?

Such records may seem to exist outside the work, but they might be necessary to nurture it for a long time.

If it's a good work, people will find it naturally.

I wanted to believe that somewhere, too.

But reality was different. If it's not known, it's almost as if it doesn't exist. That's why dissemination is necessary, and we must also create places where it can be searched for.

Even now, I sometimes wish it would be easier if I could just focus on production.

Even so, I have been reminded many times that creation includes the process of delivering it.

Even if I divide them neatly, I will probably get lost again.

I am still continuing with note.

note is a good fit as a place to write about what I'm thinking at the time and what I feel in the middle of creation. The distance to the people who read it is close, and I get reactions back.

On my personal blog, I want to leave behind information that can be searched, AI utilization, and knowledge gained through production.

The official Project Alive website is a hub for summarizing 'Crossroad,' future works, and activity achievements.

Writing it like this makes it look like the roles are neatly divided.

But in reality, I think I will get lost many times.

Is this for note? Is it for the blog? Is it also necessary for the official website?

I am making dramas while working a full-time job, advancing game development, and trying to build my own AI tools to support my creation and dissemination. Honestly, trying to nurture multiple media on top of that is quite greedy.

I don't expect to be able to keep up with everything perfectly. The division of roles might change along the way, too.

However, I feel now that it is difficult to deliver everything from just one place.

Not to return to being a blogger

I am not restarting my personal blog to return to being a blogger like I was in the past.

My main focus will continue to be metaverse drama production. From there, I want to connect to game development and create new systems using AI.

The blog is a place to ensure that what I gain in that process doesn't just end there.

Even the methods that didn't work out and the things I noticed during production might be found by someone in a few years if I leave them behind.

I don't know if that will really happen. Search and AI will continue to change from here on out.

In the admin dashboard I opened for the first time in a while, there were articles left behind by the me of the past.

The me from back then surely never thought I would return here once again in an era where AI has become commonplace.

I am trying to leave my future creations in a place I thought would end.

It still feels a little strange.
