8 Seconds of Infinity ~Miraculous Shooting Star~

Kotori began dating Kazuki after three years of unrequited love.

Kazuki loved the number 8.

"It looks like infinity, right?"

he would often say with a laugh.

That is why he arbitrarily decided that our anniversary would be August 8th.
In our daily lives, we often clash, get out of sync, and argue.


Then we make up and the passion flares up again.
We are truly a 'rollercoaster couple'.

And today was our first overnight trip.


"Keep August 8th free! Do you have a swimsuit? We're staying over!"

Kazuki loves surprises and never tells me the details.
But it was our anniversary.

Kotori was a little expectant and excited.

However, I had gained weight and didn't have a swimsuit that fit, so I rushed out to buy one.
I also packed my overnight bag.

Then, a week before the trip,

we had another 'rollercoaster plunge'.


An angry Kazuki said,
"We're breaking up. I'm cancelling the trip."

Kotori, who had been preparing steadily and looking forward to it, also put on a brave face and said,

"Fine."
But the next day,


"Kotori-chan... Actually, it's a waste to pay the cancellation fee... Let's just go on the trip and then break up, okay? 🥺"

Kotori thought,

Why is he assuming we're breaking up? What a strange person...

And then, the day before.
Due to a typhoon, it was pouring rain.
I only knew the destination was 'the sea'.


We both desperately stared at the weather forecast.

But it was too late to cancel.
We decided to head out anyway,



and on the morning of the trip, Kotori made rice balls to eat in the car.
"Our first trip. Rain or typhoon, I'm happy regardless! 😍"

As usual,

from the passenger seat,

Kotori asked,

"Kazuki! Where are we going today?"

"Who knooows! 😗"

We set off while I recorded a video.
And where we ended up was

the coast of 'Yuuhigaura' on the Sea of Japan.

This was a place Kazuki had been coming to with his family since he was a child.

We both grew up camping by the Sea of Japan.

We love the smell of the sea.

We love the sunset.

We love the sound of the waves.

"Oh. We're the same."

Such a small commonality


made Kotori very happy.

When we parked the car, the rain gradually weakened and patches of blue sky appeared.

The weather forecast had issued a warning.

Then Kazuki said,

"Oh! This might work! Let's go shopping!"

We went to a seafood market and bought turban shells, scallops, shrimp, squid, and even abalone, which are Kotori's favorites.

When we returned to the coast, it wasn't a typhoon, but clear skies.



"As expected, when we're together, even the universe is on our side."
We were genuinely moved by that miracle.

Then we unloaded all our luggage.

We set up a tarp, chairs, a small table, and a BBQ set.
Even though he said we were breaking up, this surprise was unfair.

He really is an inscrutable person.
A BBQ on a beautiful beach.

A relaxing, luxurious time.

Kotori felt it deeply.

Because until now, our camping trips had always been with children and grandchildren, so I was always on edge.


Once we were full,

we rode the swings on the beach, taking photos and videos, acting like grown adults having the time of our lives.

Changing into new swimsuits and clutching the overpriced floaties we bought at a local supermarket, we splashed around in the surf. To onlookers, we were just a couple in our 50s, but at that moment, we were undoubtedly young boys and girls who had just fallen in love.

Then, after enjoying the sea, Kazuki checked his watch and said,

"Let's go!"

and we headed to the hotel he had reserved.

It was a building shaped like a ship.

A room at the very front on the second floor. [Ocean View, with Bow Observation Deck] It even had an open-air bath.

After taking a bath and cooling off,

"Kotori-chan, it's almost time. Come here."

"For what?"

"The sunset."


"You're checking the time again..."

Whenever this person checks the time, something always happens.

We rushed out to the deck, which was like the bow of a ship from the famous scene in Titanic.

Kotori naturally stood with both arms spread out to the sides.
"Let's do Titanic!"
Kazuki shyly wrapped his arms around me from behind.

And then, the magical sunset of Tango.

We watched the sun quietly sink together.

"Thank you, Kazuki. So that's why you were watching the time."

Kotori was overcome with emotion, and a tear rolled down.

The large public hot spring bath. The view from that open-air bath was also magnificent and moving.

After that, a luxurious dinner in a private room.

Kotori was moved by the dishes served one after another while drinking wine.

"Kazuki, thank you so much. I never thought a day like this would come in my life."
"Well, a little luxury now and then is nice. It is our anniversary, after all."

Then, we took a walk on the beach at night.

Just as we were gazing at the starry night sky,

"Oh! A shooting star!" Kotori pointed.

Hearing that, Kazuki hurriedly looked up at the sky.

"Oh, wow! It's beautiful."

Even while we were talking, the shooting star didn't disappear.

An 8-second, long, long shooting star.

"Whaaaat! Can this really happen?"
"Isn't it amazing? A miracle really happened."

We looked at each other, eyes welling up, and said.
"It's destiny."


Neither of us said anything more.

Those words were enough.

I couldn't even think of a wish.

Because,

right in front of me,
was the wish itself.

And so, our happy trip came to an end.

That day,
the shooting star that kept streaking across the sky for 8 seconds.


The next day,



near my house, I saw a long shooting star that split into two.
The person I was able to watch such a miracle with,

is surely the only one in my life.
That day, we saw 8 seconds of infinity.

So, Kazuki.
