Thursday, March 12, 2026, around 1:00 p.m.
After our blissful lunch, my beloved お姉さま took me to a coffee shop nearby. It was almost full. Most of the people inside were in suits, clearly in the middle of their workday.
We were surrounded by people. There was almost no privacy at all. But everyone seemed busy with their own things, and we had just enough space that our conversation wouldn't reach anyone else.

As I sipped my coffee, it hit me — how unbelievable it was that right now, in this whole wide world, I had お姉さま all to myself. I felt nothing but gratitude. But at the same time, something inside me was restless. There was something I needed to tell her, and I couldn't figure out how to bring it up. I desperately kept searching for the right moment.
After a little while, I gathered my courage and told her something I had not told anyone yet — a deep pain that was still so raw. I didn't know when I'd get to see her again. I didn't want to waste the chance.
Honestly, I had no idea how she would react or what she would say. There was a small chance she might tell me I was in the wrong. But I couldn't think of a single other person in the world I could turn to.
My heart was pounding as I told her everything.
And just as I'd hoped, she understood.
She felt exactly the same way I did.
Tears slowly welled up.
She understands me better than anyone else in the world.
That's what I felt in that moment.
All the heaviness I'd been carrying in my chest just... dissolved. My body and my heart felt so much lighter.
I'm so glad I was brave enough to tell her.
Thank you.
I love you so much. ❤️
As always, I kept praying in my heart, "Please, let this time never end."
But eventually, the moment to say goodbye crept closer.
Outside the shop, she took a selfie of the two of us.
🌿🌿🌿
When we got to the station, she asked, "Will you be okay?" (Meaning: can you figure out how to buy a Shinkansen ticket without any trouble?)
"Yes, I understand Japanese, so I'll be fine. I'll figure it out," I told her.
I say this line half-jokingly all the time.
But the truth is, I really do mean it.
In my twenties, I moved to America by myself, with nothing but the money I'd saved on my own. I had no choice but to figure out everything for myself. It was a time before cell phones. Almost no one in Japan was reachable by email yet. Not everyone I met was kind. I can't count how many times I stumbled and cried. School, career, life — I had to make every decision alone.
But now, whenever I come back to Japan,
there's nothing to be afraid of.
I mean, come on — I speak Japanese.
And yet, for some reason, my お姉さま seemed to think,
"This girl is still a little hopeless, isn't she?"
She walked me over to a Shinkansen ticket vending machine — I didn't even know those existed — and did the whole thing for me. All I could do was stand there with my eyes wide open. The ticket came out in seconds.
I had honestly believed you could only buy Shinkansen tickets by waiting in line at a Midori no Madoguchi counter. When I'd used the JR Rail Pass for foreign visitors a few years back, I actually did have to go to the counter every single time.
Looking back on this, I realized something. This kind of thing had happened before — more than once. Somehow, whenever I'm with her, I turn into a child. I let her do things for me. It's almost as if the universe is deliberately creating these moments, saying, "It's okay. You're allowed to lean on someone."
You don't have to do it all alone anymore.
"Oh," I thought. "So that's what this is about." And you know, I get the feeling she actually enjoys looking after me. Am I being too shameless?
She was the first person who ever showed me what real love is.
At first, I was just surprised. Again and again.
The "tiny Ayako" who had been hiding for so long peeked out, just halfway. "Is it safe here?" she wondered.

And after meeting this person a few more times, the real me — the whole me — started to come out with nothing held back.
With her, I can just be myself.
This trip, I felt that more clearly than ever.
That's probably why I stop being the put-together version of myself.
Maybe, without realizing it, I go back to being a child.
🌿🌿🌿
And then, the moment to say goodbye.
Every time, with just a little hesitation, I ask for a hug.
The moment I feel her warmth — with every part of my being —
there's love and happiness that no words could ever capture.
The tears just come.
Even then, I'm like a little kid.
So this is what it means to truly adore someone.
I watched her go, tears in my eyes,
until I couldn't see her anymore.
