　新型コロナウイルスの影響とケガで海外でのプレーを中断して2年。再びヨーロッパへ挑戦するチャンスが巡ってきました。次に僕が選んだ場所は、ドイツ🇩🇪です！

ドイツ1部リーグからのオファー✉️

　オランダから緊急帰国し、日本で次の機会をうかがっていた僕のもとに、1通のメッセージが届きました。「ドイツに来てほしい」。ドイツ1部リーグのBグループに所属するチームからのオファーです。
　僕に迷いはありませんでした。「もちろん、行きます！ 水球をやらせてください！」。こうして、ドイツ行きが決まりました。

ドイツのトップリーグに挑戦

　ドイツリーグは、ヨーロッパ屈指の実力を誇る強豪チーム（HannoverやSpandau Berlinなど）が多数所属しており、歴史も深く、組織の規模も非常に大きいリーグです。
　僕にオファーをくれたのは、日本人が多く住むデュッセルドルフにある、1部リーグBグループのチームでした。ドイツリーグの1部リーグは、全部で16チーム。そのうちのAグループは、チャンピオンズリーグやユーロカップに出場するような強豪チームで構成されています。一方、僕が所属することになったBグループは、そのAグループへの昇格を目指すチームが集まっています。

ドイツリーグで求められる力

　ドイツリーグで最も特徴的なのは、選手の体格とパワーです。長年水球強豪国であるハンガリーとのつながりが深く、かつてオリンピックや世界大会で活躍したレジェンドたちが指導者として活躍し、リーグ全体のレベルを押し上げてきました。近年では、モンテネグロやセルビアなど、世界のトッププレーヤーもドイツリーグでのプレーを選択しています。
　このような環境でプレーするためには、体格の大きな相手に臆することなく立ち向かう強いメンタルが不可欠です。

2つのチームで、2倍の経験を積む

　ドイツでのプレーで貴重な経験となったのが、2チーム登録というユニークな制度です。ドイツリーグでは、ファーストチームとセカンドチームの両方に同じ選手を登録できるルールがあります。
　僕はファーストチームの試合に出場しながら、若手やベテラン選手が中心のセカンドチームでも試合に出場させてもらう機会を得ました。これは、GMや監督が「2年間のブランクを解消し、早くドイツのシステムに慣れてほしい」と期待してくれたからこそです。

The Offer

Following an emergency return from the Netherlands, I was biding my time in Japan, waiting for the next opportunity. Then, a message arrived: "Come to Germany." It was an offer from a team in the German First Division, Group B.
"Of course! I’ll go! Please let me play water polo!" I responded immediately. My journey to Germany was set.

The German League

The German League is home to some of Europe's top teams, including powerhouses like Hannover, Spandau Berlin, and Duisburg. It is a historic and well-established league with a very large organization, and I’m still getting to grips with all the details.
The team that offered me a contract is located in Düsseldorf, a city with a large Japanese community. They are part of the German First Division's Group B. The First Division consists of 16 teams, divided into two groups. Group A is for top-tier teams that compete in tournaments like the Champions League and Euro Cup. Group B, where my team plays, is made up of teams striving to join Group A.

What Makes the German League Unique

One of the most notable features of the German League is the sheer physicality and power of the players. The league has a deep historical connection with Hungary, a traditional water polo powerhouse. Many legends who once starred in the Olympics and World Championships are now coaches in the German league, raising the overall level of play. Today, top players from countries like Montenegro and Serbia also choose to play here.
To compete in this league, you need a strong mentality to stand your ground against physically dominant opponents.

Doubling My Game Time

I had a very valuable experience while playing in Germany: being registered to two teams simultaneously. In Germany (and the Netherlands, as I recall), a player can be registered for both the first and second teams.
My coaches registered me for both squads, allowing me to play in games for the first team while also getting significant playing time with the second team, which is a mix of younger and veteran players. It was a clear message from the GM and coach: "We want you to shake off the two-year break and get used to the German system as quickly as possible."
