Seven Lucky Gods Series | Inorigami (Prayer Paper) Edition [The Battlefield of Bishamonten and Copy Paper]
A repetitive daily life and unreasonable demands. Beyond that, finding one's own "pride".
Chime,
chime, chime.
An Inorigami reaches Bishamonten's hands.
"Hmm... It seems there is someone fighting an enemy called 'unreasonableness' all alone in a place no one can see."
Bishamonten made his armor clatter and grabbed the paper with a sharp gaze.
Inorigami reflects the weight of a wish in its color.
The color that arrived was 'Suo-iro' (Sappanwood red), like a quietly burning flame.
It is a deep red, a mixture of pride and conflict hidden deep within a heart that endures.
(Inorigami from Sumi-san, 40s, Administrative)
The 'battlefield' in front of the computer.
Every day, the same repetitive tasks.
Facing the computer screen, answering the phone, and routing calls to sales in a business-like manner.
"The sales people are amazing..."
Watching them bow over the phone, sweating and running around, I sigh, thinking I could never do that.
I know they get paid accordingly, but still—.
"Sumi-san, we're out of copy paper!"
It's that young female sales representative I'm not fond of again.
She's demanding. Even when I warn her, she brushes it off with a single 'Please!'
"It's scheduled to arrive tomorrow. If what we have isn't enough, I'll go buy some."
"Then please do! I need to take it to a client today. Oh, and don't get the 100-yen shop paper!"
...That made me snap.
I'm her senior, and I'm older than her.
"I've told you many times to tell me in advance if you're going to use more than 100 sheets!"
"Why only me?"
"...Yes, understood!"
I force a smile to reply and rush outside.
The reflection of the sun off the asphalt seems to fuel my irritation.
"Ah, God! Why do I have to be the only one treated like this?"
I don't have the glamour of the sales girl, nor do I have any flashy achievements.
I'm just maneuvering so that everyone can work without a hitch.
Yet, all I get back isn't gratitude, but demands treated as if they were a matter of course.
Chime,
chime, chime.
High above in the sky, Bishamonten holds his spear aloft, watching over Sumi-san's back as if glaring at it.
"You fool. Without you, that warrior (salesperson) wouldn't even be able to hold their sword (documents). Even if no one praises you, are you not a general who magnificently protects 'order'?"
A small victory that no one will ever know
I hand over the paper I bought carelessly and return to my seat.
I watch the back of the person who leaves with a light wave, saying, "Thanks!"
Suddenly, I wipe down my desk.
I tidy up my keyboard and organize tomorrow's schedule.
Because I ran to buy this paper today, that kid might be able to land a contract.
This company will continue to function tomorrow just the same.
"…Well, I guess it's fine. They'd be in trouble without me, after all."
No one notices. But I know.
That I was the one who supported this day from the very bottom.
Should I buy myself a treat on the way home—or maybe,
should I stop for a drink on the way back? What should I do~♪
High above in the sky, Bishamonten nods with satisfaction and disappears into the clouds.
"That is good. Heaven is watching your battle closely."
