Pest Appearance Calendar by Temperature: From Cherry Blossoms to Autumn Leaves
March 5th is 'Keichitsu' (the awakening of insects).
It is a solar term when insects that have survived the winter wake up with the arrival of spring.
To mark the beginning of the insect season, we are releasing the KINCHO original 'Pest Appearance Calendar by Temperature' for the first time!
We have predicted when and what kind of pests will appear. Please use this to help with your pest control measures.
Pest Appearance Calendar
The kanji for 'wriggle' (蠢く) is written with the character for 'insect' repeated three times. As the temperature rises, many insects begin to become active.
The season of peak activity varies depending on the insect. Based on KINCHO's many years of research and interactions with customers troubled by pests, we have considered which pests to watch out for during which periods and compiled them into a table. (Note: There may be a difference of about ±1 month depending on the year and region.)

Seasonal Pest Appearance Forecast
Let's take a closer look at which insects to watch out for and when.
Early Spring (Maximum temperature is 20°C or lower)
Around Keichitsu, when cold winds still blow, the first to appear are non-biting midges. There are many types of non-biting midges, and the time when adults fly varies by species, but the early ones appear as soon as they feel the signs of spring. It's time to check if there are any tears in your screen doors!

Spring (Maximum temperature exceeds 20°C)
On warm days, you may see common house mosquitoes that overwintered as adults, or cockroaches and stink bugs that were hiding somewhere in the room.
However, theseinsects that have just finished overwintering are few in number and slow in movement.Let's exterminate them for sure before they increase.
The ones to watch out for are centipedes and varied carpet beetles.
Centipedes appear from mid-April!“Mukade Muender” and other early preparations!
In late April, large pests that put holes in clothes, the varied carpet beetle, appear in large numbers as adults and fly around throughout May, sodon't forget the insect repellent “Gon-Gon”!

Early Summer (Maximum temperature is around 25°C)
Insect activity becomes active after Golden Week.
Cockroach activity also suddenly goes into full swing. Before the holidays, set up “Combat” and we recommend clearing out the cockroaches in the room with “Gokiburi Muender”.
From mid-May, we finally enter the mosquito season.
Other insects also begin to increase in number actively. From mid-May until before mid-summer is the most comfortable time for insects.

Rainy Season (Maximum temperature is 25–30°C, high humidity)
The rainy season, when humidity rises, is a time when mites are particularly prone to increasing.
Mites multiply rapidly when the three conditions of temperature, humidity, and food are met.To reduce their food sources, try to clean and do laundry frequently. Ventilate and air out your futons on sunny days.“Mite Muender” can also be useful! Also,
be careful not to leave standing water that can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes behind. Be careful, as mosquitoes will come to feed during breaks in the rain!

Summer (maximum temperatures exceeding 30°C)
During extreme heat, outdoor insects tend to get heat exhaustion, but they are energetic inside the house.Flies, especially fruit flies, become active. When food waste rots, it becomes a breeding ground for fruit flies and they can increase explosively, so make sure to take out the trash every time it is collected! Mosquitoes rest in the shade during the hot daytime, but
they become active in search of blood during the cool hours of the morning and evening. Don't forget to take measures against mosquitoes while sleeping. Also, be sure not to leave standing water that can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Autumn (days with maximum temperatures falling below 30°C become more frequent)
When autumn arrives, mosquitoes regain their energy during the day. You might get bitten more often in autumn than in midsummer. Don't run out of insect repellent spray! Also, be careful as hornets become more aggressive as autumn deepens. If you find a hornet's nest near where people live, make sure to exterminate it by early summer!

Late Autumn (maximum temperatures falling below 20°C)
As autumn deepens, stink bugs may enter the house or cover entire walls. “Stink Bug Kincho” to prevent them from entering. Inside the house, “Unpleasant Insect Muender” is helpful.

The insect season lasts from cherry blossoms to autumn leaves.
Insects generally appear from the cherry blossom season until the autumn leaf season.
Due to the effects of recent climate change, the period when insects are active has become prolonged. It is reassuring to have long-lasting
Mushikonars or Shinkatori ready in early spring!

This official note, which I started last year on Keichitsu (the day insects wake from hibernation), has been running for one year. Thank you for your continued support.
