I'm recuperating, so I decided to walk around town
―I applied on a whim, but it turned out to be more serious than I thought―
Hakodate is a relatively compact city.
You can visit many of its historical buildings and streets while riding the city tram.
Of course, you might need a bus or a rental car to go to places a bit further away, but there are many spots where you can feel the history of Hakodate just by getting off the tram and walking.
In such a Hakodate, a walking event for the Landscape Community Development Forum will be held this October.
I am currently participating in its executive committee.
Now that I am recuperating, I want to try something I have never done before.
Walking might even help me build up some physical strength. (And I want to lose a little weight, too)
At first, that was about the extent of my casual motivation.
However, when I applied, for some reason I ended up writing a very serious statement🤣
Even though I applied on a whim, the document itself was earnest. I suppose researching local issues for a university report was also a trigger😌
It's the usual story.

Starting this fiscal year, in addition to members of civic activity groups, members recruited from the general public are participating, and it seems about seven people, including myself, were selected.
I wonder if they are trying to incorporate new perspectives and opinions by bringing in new people.
That is how I interpreted it.
When I actually participated, various opinions were flying around from the civic activity group members and the public recruits.
However, the general course for the walking event had already been decided, and what we are thinking about are the minor adjustments and how to present it from there.
Rather than creating a course freely from scratch, it is more about inheriting what has been built up so far while refining it little by little.
Perhaps that is the kind of work community development is.

Although, I missed the committee meeting last time because I wasn't feeling well.
Because of that, I actually don't understand very well how far the discussions have progressed😓
Even so, at the next meeting, for some reason, I ended up stopping a participant who was about to leave halfway through.
And what's more, they were from a different group than mine.
I didn't fully understand the content, yet I started mediating interpersonal relationships.
My meddlesome side was activated🤣

However, looking back, I have always been the type to get concerned when someone is about to leave a place or seems like they are about to be left out of a conversation.
I don't know if that was a necessary intervention or just meddling.
Lately, I am practicing "not taking things on immediately, even if I notice them."
Even so, when I feel it is necessary, I end up speaking up.
It seems my nature doesn't change much, even if the place changes.

As it stands, I cannot say I am being of much use as an executive committee member.
At the very least, I hope to build up my strength little by little so I don't become a burden on the day of the event.
The pamphlet in the photo is from last year.
You can get it at the Hakodate Community Center in Jūjigai.
This year's pamphlet is currently being prepared.

I can't run like everyone who participated in the Hakodate Marathon, but I will walk through the historic city of Hakodate in the autumn.
