To You Who Can't Believe You're Lucky: Opening the Window Just 1mm
It's as if a voice saying "maybe it's impossible"
is quietly playing in your head.
Before you know it, don't you find yourself
holding back just a little before trying something new?
"I'm not the kind of person who is lucky."
What if you've been holding onto that assumption somewhere deep down?
Recently, I heard the term "goun" (extraordinary luck).
It started with a conversation between YouTuber Hikaru
and Keisuke Honda.
It was impressive to see how they weren't just relying on luck, but were trying to grow further by layering effort and habits on top of it.
But while listening to that, I was thinking about something a little different.
"Isn't it a huge deal whether or not you can even think of yourself as someone who is lucky in the first place?"
This is a story about my friend's father.
A long time ago, when he took the Osaka Prefectural civil service exam,
it was a narrow gate where only 5 out of 500 people passed.
Moreover, he only had a middle school education at the time.
Looking at it normally, those are disadvantageous conditions, right?
But apparently, he said this:
"I couldn't even imagine not passing."
And he always used to say this:
"It's important to have confidence."
"Believe that you can do it."
"If it doesn't work out, you can just think about what to do then."
These might sound a bit harsh.
But I felt that within these words,
there is the essence that "your mindset determines the direction of your life."
When you think about future anxieties in advance,
people inevitably stop taking action.
However,
People who move forward thinking 'I can do it' act first.
And they only think about it if things don't go well.

This flow is very natural, isn't it?
If you don't do it, the probability of success remains at zero, but
just by taking one step forward,
the possibilities begin to move just a little bit.
Even while in the same reality,
there are people who 'take a step forward as a matter of course',
and people who hesitate.
That difference is perhaps not so much a difference in ability,
but a difference in the assumptions with which you view yourself.
It is said that Konosuke Matsushita,
known as the god of management,
also used to ask in interviews, 'Are you lucky?'
I believe what he was looking at
was not the number of lucky events,
but how much you believe in your own potential
is what he was really checking.
However, there is one important thing here.
It is that you are not a failure just because you cannot think 'it is natural to be able to do it'.
In your experiences up until now,
It may just be that there was a valid reason you couldn't think that way.
When you have had few secure relationships or few experiences where you could believe in yourself,
people naturally begin to assume that things might be impossible.
In an article by Hitotarao that I read recently,
“It is not the method, but the mindset that creates reality”
there was a discussion about this,
and I felt that it somehow overlaps with this sense of “great luck” we are discussing.
More than whether you are doing something special,
it is about what assumptions you hold when viewing the world.
That may be what eventually appears as a “difference in luck.”
If you would like, just one thing today.
It only needs to be a tiny bit, but please try making a choice that is different from usual.
I sometimes share this in my counseling sessions:
“You might be in a state where you are in a room with the windows shut tight, where no light reaches.
But it only needs to be 1mm. Please try opening the window just a little bit.
You will be able to see a little of what is outside,
the light will shine in,
and the pitch-black room will become just a little bit brighter.
This “just a little bit” is enough.”
You can choose to keep it closed,
but try looking at a different view, just a tiny bit.
That small action,
might be what gradually changes your reality.
I've been writing about these kinds of "assumptions," but
recently, I had an experience where I felt a little bit of "great luck" myself.
Unexpectedly, someone wrote a song for me.
You can listen to that song in genza's article🫶
I didn't specifically ask for it, but
it was something I received naturally in the flow of things.
If it were the old me,
I might have just dismissed it as
"the other person is just amazing."
for ending it there.
But now,
"that things like this are allowed to happen in my life."
I've become able to accept, just a little bit.
That event might not have been just a coincidence,
but something that happened precisely because I've become the kind of person who can receive it.
Luck isn't just something that comes from somewhere far away,
but rather,
it's about whether you can notice and accept what is right in front of you.
I've started to think about it that way, too.
I still find myself stopping in my tracks sometimes, too.
That's why this is a message for someone else, but at the same time,
it's also something I'm telling myself.
Having read this far,
you have already started to step out, just a little, from the state of
only continuing to doubt your own luck.

And there is one more video that left an impression on me.
🎥 [Reference video: The trigger that made Hikaru decide to review his lifestyle habits]
Watching this video, I also thought, 'Let's start by getting things in order,' and
I decided to try continuing with the trampoline.
……That said, I haven't jumped yet today💦
But I will definitely jump before I go to sleep✊
Trying to move, even just by 1mm.
I feel like just by doing that, I can become someone a little different from yesterday.
If you would like to know a little more deeply about these 'habits of thinking',
I have written several articles on this before,
so please feel free to take a look if you'd like.
