2025/10/18 Focusing on what I've accomplished ~A day to lower the hurdles I set for myself~
2025/10/18
The morning light streams in softly.
The wind is a little cold, and thin clouds are spread across the sky.
Even though it's a nice day, there's a slight cloudiness deep in my chest.
There shouldn't be anything to feel uneasy about, yet I find myself feeling uneasy on my own. It's a bad habit.
Is it my physical condition, or the weather?
I don't know the reason, but my heart feels a little heavy.
My quiet morning notebook time alerts me to these movements in my heart, like a warning.
The children's hard work and growth
Saturday is the children's piano lesson day.
My second daughter passed two practice pieces and was overjoyed!
She said they were her favorite songs and practiced them a lot.
The concentration you have for things you love is different, after all. Because she practiced the parts she struggled with properly, her progress was fast.
My eldest daughter has an audition for the school concert accompaniment coming up. I asked the teacher to look at her accompaniment piece as well.
She was taught how to handle the finger movements she struggled with, and she became able to play them smoothly. She seems to have gained a little confidence, and it looks like her motivation will last until the audition.
Watching the children work hard makes me happy too.
Seeing them steadily moving forward. The children teach me that effort truly bears fruit.
I think being able to watch over that is a parent's joy.
The hurdles I set for myself
In the afternoon, I went to the dentist, which I dislike. Even though I know in my head that daily maintenance is important, the uneasiness didn't disappear even after it was over. I don't know what the cause is.
It's just that my heart feels heavy.
I kept asking myself, 'Why?'
I realized that even though there are many things I have accomplished, I am cornering myself by wanting more and more.
I am raising the hurdles myself, wanting more and more.
There's no need to do that.
No one is asking for such a high bar.
When I thought that, I started to laugh a little.
The children are moving forward steadily at their own pace. And yet, I might be too strict with myself.
But, there are days like that.
I felt that just accepting the uneasiness without trying to make it disappear was enough.
Regaining a gentle perspective
The groundless uneasiness might be something I am creating myself. Even though I look at my days so closely, and even though I know that 'taking a break is important,' I am bad at stopping.
Just as my child is happy about passing, I should applaud my own small steps forward.
Instead of cornering myself by wanting more and more, I will focus on what I have accomplished. I forget such a gentle perspective so easily.
Are you suffering from the hurdles you set for yourself?
Are you trying to climb to a height that no one is asking for? I will focus on what I have accomplished and try lowering the hurdles a little.
I wish I could have as much kindness for myself as I do for others.
That was the kind of Saturday it was.
