Feeling uneasy without it | The importance of camera lens protection filters and my story of buying a new one |
Hello! This is Jiro.
This time, I'd like to talk about something I bought and the reasons behind the purchase.
The a6400 and Sigma 56mm F1.4 are my travel camera setup.
Recently, when I went on a trip to Nagasaki, I realized once again the importance of the camera lens I use regularly.
In particular, the Sigma 56mm F1.4, which is the lens I use the most, is super compact for an APS-C size lens,
and it's a huge favorite of mine because its large aperture compensates for the disadvantages in noise resistance and bokeh compared to full-frame cameras.
It's been over half a year since I bought it, and I've been using it attached to my a6400, which I use almost constantly for my hobbies.
I really love the photographic expression of this lens, and the fact that it's so compact makes it very convenient to carry around, so it's always with me when I go out.

In the midst of all this, a problem occurred during my recent trip to Nagasaki.
The protection filter I had attached to the lens came off,
and I had no idea where it had gone.
I still had the lens cap, but the crucial protection filter was gone.
This incident made me feel even more strongly that I didn't want to scratch my lens, so I decided to buy a new protection filter.
I bought a new protection filter.
Protection filters are also very important items for maintaining the resale value of camera lenses.
The Sigma 56mm F1.4 I use (and this is true for my other lenses as well) can be sold for 70% to 90% of its list price if it's in good condition, so I have a strong desire to keep it from getting scratched as much as possible.
Furthermore, since I also use this lens for work, I want to treat it with care not just as hobby equipment, but as a professional tool.
So, I newly purchased an Amazon Basics 55mm lens filter.

The reason I chose this product is that reviews indicated there were no issues with its protective performance and that it had no impact on color reproduction.
Also, the very affordable price was a major factor.
Especially for those who don't have a protection filter on their lens, I think keeping the lens clean is important when considering selling it in the future.
No particular issues with image quality
Even after actually attaching it, there isn't a dramatic change in photo quality, but scratches and dirt on the lens are still a concern.
By using a protection filter, you can protect the lens from accidental scratches and dirt, which provides peace of mind.
From beginners to advanced camera users, if you want to make your lens last longer, I
strongly recommend attaching a protection filter.
Summary
The AmazonBasics lens filter I chose provides the necessary minimum protection and has excellent cost performance.
Actually, while various ones are sold by other manufacturers, this was the cheapest.
It is the perfect item for those who want to take good care of their camera or are thinking about selling it in the future. If there is anyone who hasn't attached a filter to their lens yet, please consider purchasing one as an opportunity.
Lens protection is basic care for continuing to use camera equipment for a long time.
By using an affordable protection filter, you can protect your beloved lens from scratches and keep it in a state where you can always take beautiful photos.
See you later!!
