I desire peace, but I do not seek equality. Instead, I want to seek fairness.
Good morning, good afternoon, good night, everyone, it's JAU!
“Everyone is equal.”
These words are very beautiful.
To avoid conflict,
and to ensure no one gains an unfair advantage,
the concept of "sameness" is convenient and beautiful.
However, I have been thinking about something lately.
Is "equality" truly kind?
【✨Introducing the Featured Pickups✨】
I will be running a random "Featured Pickup" project for those who have purchased paid articles or commented on my articles!! I want to do my best to introduce everyone and create an environment where people can see each other's articles and interact, even if just a little bit❣️
Details are here⬇️
I desire peace.
But I do not seek equality.
Instead,
I want to seek "fairness."
Today, I want to talk about that🤭✨
First, let's organize the meanings of these words.
① Peace
Peace is a state where there is no conflict and one can live with peace of mind.
However,
it does not mean there are no problems.
People are always different.
Values, abilities, and environments are all different.
Even so,
a state where we can coexist without destroying each other.
That is what I think peace is.
② Equality
Equality is the idea of giving everyone the same thing.
For example,
☑️The same education for everyone
☑️The same rules
☑️The same explanation
☑️The same evaluation
At first glance, it seems correct.
But there is one problem here.
“People are not the same from the start.”That is the reality.
For example,
what happens if you give a 150cm tall person and a 190cm tall person the same height step stool?
Even though the conditions are the same,
the view they see is different.
I often feel this in medical settings as well.
Even if I give the same explanation,
there are those who can understand and those who cannot.
Even with the same examination instructions,
some people get anxious and others do not.
Even though I provided the same response,
there are people who end up being "left behind."
Is that truly kindness?
③ Fairness (Equity)
Fairness is the idea of giving each person what they need.
For someone who is short,
you give them a slightly taller step stool.
For someone who has difficulty understanding,
you take the time to explain.
For someone who is very anxious,
you provide support.
In other words,
Adjusting things so that everyone can stand at the same starting line as a result
That is my way of thinking.
However, equity is difficult.
Because,
equity creates 'differences'.
It looks like more for some and less for others.
Then,
'That person is cheating'
'That's special treatment'
But,
giving the exact same thing to people who have different conditions from the start
is sometimes more cruel.
Equality,
is beautiful as a rule.
But,
the real human society is not that simple.
People have strengths and weaknesses,
family backgrounds,
and different levels of mental strength.
And,
there is also invisible fatigue and suffering.
That is why I,
rather than 'everyone is the same',
adjustments that make it easier for everyone to live
I think is more important.
Of course,
there are limits to equity as well.
How far should we go in providing consideration?
Who decides that?
That is a theme that will be argued about forever 🥲
That is exactly why,
society is difficult!
But,
at least I,
'making things the same'
rather than,
'not leaving anyone behind'
is what I want to value 🥰
Peace is not,
forcing everyone into the same mold.
I believe it is a state where different people,
can live while remaining different.
That is why I,
desire peace.
But, I do not seek equality.
Instead, I want to seek equity.
That is my own way of thinking right now 🤭✨
