Self-Introduction: A Challenge from Age 64 - 'Seniors, Aim High with AI!'
Nice to meet you.
I have decided to start a note from today.
The first article is a self-introduction.
Hello, I am rokuzou.
I took this opportunity to look back on my past.
Since graduating from university, I have challenged myself with many different jobs, including engineering, sales, and company management.
I have truly taken on a wide variety of work.
I remember that every time I started something new, I would feel nervous, thinking, 'What should I do?'
It was always a heart-pounding beginning.
During my time as a business owner, I spent my days at the mercy of the waves of the era, such as soaring material costs and legal amendments.
For a small company, it was a series of major crises, but that was exactly when I thought, 'Let's excitedly take on new challenges!'
I dove into CAD/CAM, the internet, and online sales.
The process of learning new technologies through trial and error is a sparkling, treasure-like experience for me.
Come to think of it, I believe personal computers (PCs) also appeared around the time I was a university student.
I remember running to the electronics store with a close colleague, excited to buy my first laptop after I started working.
Looking back now, it had cute specs that were like a toy, but the price was a whopping 300,000 to 350,000 yen!
Even so, my heart was full of excitement at the prospect of a new world opening up.
Thinking about it this way, I feel that because I was allowed to experience so many things, I have been able to live a truly happy and warm life up to this point.
It was never all smooth sailing, and there were many times I struggled when things didn't go as planned, but all those experiences gently support who I am today.
Even now at 64, I am still challenging myself toward a new future.
By the way,
I came up with the nickname 'rokuzou' at the age of 63,
thinking, 'I want to find more new excitement!'
and 'I want to share something and create warm connections with someone's heart.'
It's a bit embarrassing because the naming is so simple,
but I really like it.
I started this note because
'It would be a waste to end things without leaving anything behind,'
'I want to share my thoughts and connect with someone,'
'I want to start a new challenge on the internet!'
and my heart was filled with excitement.
It is fun to chat and laugh with younger colleagues at my current workplace,
but sometimes there is a loneliness when we miss each other due to generational differences, thinking, 'Huh? Did that not get across?'
That is exactly why I started writing here, hoping for a place where I can warmly connect with peers of a similar age or everyone who shares the same feelings,
and where we can easily empathize with each other, saying, 'I know, I know!'
From now on, I plan to write about things like marketing and self-improvement that I have studied for many years,
as well as my daily warm realizations,
keeping it relaxed and sharing stories that can make everyone feel cozy.
My hobbies are movies, YouTube, reading, and drinking.
I am not a heavy drinker,
but the time spent laughing and drinking with my beloved friends
is, after all, the happiest moment of all.
My curiosity to try new things is still very much alive, so
I intend to keep taking on interesting challenges
from here on out.
What I want to convey from the bottom of my heart is
that "the time after 60 is when you can truly shine by doing what you love!"
that is what I mean.
If you can't do something now, you can just
put your heads together and brainstorm how to make it happen in a fun way.
I would be happy if we could grow a warm, smile-filled space here
where such positive-minded people can gather.
From now on, I want to empathize with others who, like me,
want to try new things,
and I plan to share content that can serve as a spark or the courage to take that first step.
With that passionate desire in mind, I have prepared a personal motto.
The catchphrase is—"Seniors, aim high with AI!"
*According to Gemini, "Once you are in your 60s, especially after 65, terms like 'senior',
'elderly,' and 'mature generation' become common."
It seems that is the case.
I feel that AI is not something meant only for difficult experts,
but a "reliable partner" that gently supports our daily lives.
Whether it's helping with research as if we were just having a casual chat,
or gently organizing cluttered ideas,
with a little ingenuity, the excitement of every day can expand many times over.
AI is evolving at an incredible speed.
However, AI is ultimately just a tool, and the exciting purpose of "what I want to do"
is the real star, and there is absolutely no need to be an expert on AI in general.
The most important point is how you can happily use AI for what you want to do.
To put it extremely, I think you can just decide to let go of
other difficult knowledge.
I recently realized this myself, and
my heart felt much lighter.
There is no need to keep up with all the AI that is evolving at a breakneck speed!
Just pick and choose the parts that you think "this looks fun!"
at your own pace.
I believe that is the perfect, lighthearted, and fun way for our generation
to engage with it.
When I look back on my own history, I remember
when mobile phones first appeared.
At first, I was the type of person who rejected them, saying,
"I don't like the idea of being connected anytime, anywhere, as it feels like my time will be stolen."
Even as stubborn as I was back then,
I can't live without my smartphone now.
If something is convenient, we should all just enjoy that convenience.
Changing lightly with the times
is also quite interesting.
Being full of curiosity,
I jumped into various AIs early on, but I just got buried in information
and couldn't create anything, which led me to
smile bitterly and think, "Huh?"
I am still feeling my way through things and often find myself thinking, "Huh?" but from now on, I want to take on the challenge of a new adventure, using AI for exciting learning, heart-fluttering marketing, and personal development.
For example,
"nurturing ideas while having fun chatting with AI,"
"having it gently refine my thoughts into words that are easier to convey,"
"using AI to clear up my mind," which are comforting ways to use it.
Rather than bracing for something difficult, I believe that because we are the senior generation, incorporating it naturally into our lives and work will open doors to new possibilities more easily.
Conversely, precisely because we have walked through life for so many years,
we possess a wealth of experience that is second to none, even compared to younger people.
The experience gained from actually getting our hands dirty is the ultimate weapon that AI can never imitate.
Now that fact-checking to discern the truth in AI operations has become so important, our
lived wisdom will truly shine.
In this note, I want us to share such fun ways to use AI, and to exchange our daily little moments of wonder and realizations by saying, "Hey, isn't this wonderful?"
Also, I will be pouring my heart into delivering stories about what I have studied and experienced so far, in hopes that they will make your tomorrow a little brighter.
Thank you so much for reading until the end.
If you felt a sense of warmth, I would be absolutely thrilled if you could support me by following or clicking the 'like' button.
Starting next time, I will begin a "Series on Thinking About the Second Half of Life [Column]" aimed at my peers in their 60s and beyond who want to keep looking forward and living with excitement even after retirement.
And for store owners, small business managers, and others, I plan to post articles in a "Business Tips and Thinking Series," where I turn actual successful marketing case studies into easy-to-read, novel-style stories using the power of AI.
I would be very happy if you would come and read them.
I look forward to your continued support.
