Introduction to In-School Testing Sites for the Restaurant Service Skills Proficiency Test
The 2025 national "Restaurant Service Skills Proficiency Test" written examination was held on Thursday, August 7, at 11 locations nationwide, including nine regional venues and two in-school testing sites (in the Kanto and Chubu regions) approved by the Japan Hotel and Restaurant Service Skills Association (HRS).
In this article, we would like to introduce the initiatives of one of those schools, the in-school testing site in Shizuoka Prefecture: Nagoya Ohara Gakuen.
If you're serious, go to Ohara!
Nagoya Ohara Gakuen is one of the schools in the nationwide Ohara Gakuen Group, which practices education focused on qualification acquisition and employment under the philosophy, "If you're serious, go to Ohara!"
Students can study a wide range of fields, including accounting and bookkeeping, information processing, civil service, and hotel and bridal studies, with classes taught by instructors with extensive field experience.
The school actively incorporates internships and practical training to develop students into job-ready professionals. Furthermore, it offers comprehensive career support, including company information sessions, interview preparation, and resume editing.
With a wealth of job information leveraged through a nationwide network, students can pursue employment not only in the Tokai area but across the country. High qualification acquisition and employment rates strongly support the realization of students' dreams.

Nagoya Ohara Gakuen consists of a "Bookkeeping School," a "Law School," and a "Travel School." The Bookkeeping School is a department aimed at acquiring accounting qualifications such as the Nissho Bookkeeping, Certified Public Accountant, and Tax Accountant certifications. Students learn from basics to advanced applications, and the school has a strong track record of placements in audit firms and corporate accounting departments.
The Law School aims to prepare students for a wide range of professions, including national and local civil servants, police officers, and firefighters. In addition to thorough exam preparation, including written test prep, interview practice, and essay writing, the school also fosters a sense of public service through volunteer activities.
The Travel School is a department aimed at the hotel and bridal industry. The curriculum starts with customer service manners and service techniques, training students to become immediately effective in the hotel and wedding industry. A significant amount of time is dedicated to internships and practical training, allowing students to acquire practical skills through on-site experience. Additionally, in their second year, students rent out a professional wedding venue to conduct mock wedding ceremonies twice a year, enabling them to acquire authentic knowledge and skills related to the hotel and bridal industry.
Our school introduced the "Restaurant Service Skills Proficiency Test" to ensure that students systematically acquire the knowledge and skills required in the hotel industry and can approach their job search with confidence.
Acquiring the national Restaurant Service Skills certification serves as a foundation for working as a job-ready professional, helps prevent mismatches after joining a company, and contributes to improving the school's employment record.
Benefits of In-School Testing
The Hotel and Bridal Department is located at the Nagoya, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, and Numazu campuses. This in-school written examination was held at the Shizuoka campus, with three schools within Shizuoka Prefecture participating jointly.

Since there is no testing site for the Restaurant Service Skills Proficiency Test in Shizuoka Prefecture, the nearest venues are in Tokyo or Nagoya. Therefore, we had been considering whether we could reduce the burden of travel time and transportation costs, and every year, the faculty was always worried about whether all students would be able to take the exam safely. In the past, there were instances where students were caught in transportation trouble and arrived just before the exam started, so beyond reducing travel time and costs, we also gained a sense of "peace of mind."
By being able to conduct the test in-school, we were able to gauge the students' individual states of mind from their behavior during the exam and their reactions before and after. Since the students could spend their time in a somewhat normal manner, I believe they were able to take the exam without excessive tension. Because there was no one present but their own peers, they were able to feel more relaxed and perform to their full potential, so we would like to utilize this in-school testing system again next year.
HRS conducts in-school testing for the "Restaurant Service Skills Proficiency Test" written examination for corporate members.
Corporate member companies can also conduct in-house testing if they meet the specified conditions, so please make use of this opportunity.
