In the previous article, I tried the entire process from AI image generation to video creation and face swapping within VidMage AI.

This time, I will take it a step further and verify the feature that allows swapping multiple faces at once using a video featuring multiple people.

Is there a difference in the finish between live-action style and anime style?
Can I choose to swap only some people instead of everyone's faces?

Materials verified this time

We have prepared the following four patterns for this test.

1. Live-action style: 3 women

2. Live-action style: group of 4

3. Anime style: 3 girls

4. Anime style: group of 4

The images and videos were generated within VidMage AI, and multiple face swapping was tested from there.

We ensured the characters do not overlap too much and their faces are visible near the front, while varying their hairstyles, clothing, and overall appearance.

How to operate multiple face swap videos

STEP 1 | Upload a video featuring multiple people

First, upload a video in which multiple people appear.

Once the video is loaded, the faces in the frame are automatically detected.

STEP 2 | Select the people to swap

You can choose to swap all detected faces or just a select few.

For example, out of 4 people,

・Swap all 4 people
・Swap only the 2 people on the left
・Swap only one specific person

These selection methods were possible.

Even though it is a video with multiple people, the ability to select targets individually was a feature I only realized after trying it out this time.

STEP 3 | Set the face to swap and generate

Set the face image you want to swap and start the process.

Although processing time and results vary depending on the material, the basic operations were relatively easy to understand.

Verification results for 3 women in a live-action style

The first thing I tried was a video featuring three women in a live-action style standing in a row.

After the swap, the hairstyle, clothing, and background remained the same as the original video, while the impressions of the eyes, mouth, and facial contours changed.

Since each of the three faces was clearly visible, it was easy to compare the differences before and after the swap.

Verification results for a group of 4 in a live-action style

Next, I tried it with a live-action style video featuring four people standing in a row.

Even with an increased number of people, each face was recognized, and multiple people were swapped at once.

In this verification, I felt that the four-person group made it easier to visually convey the features of the multiple-face swap function than the three-person group.

On the other hand, if the faces are small or overlapping, the results might vary.

I also tried it with an anime style

Anime style, 4-person group

For the 4-person anime group, the swap process itself was completed.

However, compared to the live-action style, the difference before and after the swap was a bit harder to tell.

Anime characters have not just faces, but also:

・Hairstyle and hair color
・Costume
・Eye color
・Accessories
・Overall color scheme

individuality is expressed through it.

Therefore, I felt that even if only the inside of the face changed, the overall impression of the character did not change significantly.

Anime-style, 3 girls

In the anime-style video with 3 people, I tried both multiple face swapping and regular face swapping, but this time it resulted in an error and the process could not be completed.

Since it was able to process the anime-style video with 4 people, the number of people is not necessarily the only cause.

The results may vary depending on the conditions of each piece of material, such as facial depiction, angle, expression, and movement within the video.

Although the cause cannot be identified from this verification alone, it is a point worth knowing when actually using it that some materials may not be processable.

My impressions from comparing live-action and anime styles

In this scope, it was easier to confirm the changes from multiple face swaps with the live-action style.

In the live-action style, changes to the face contour, eyes, and mouth are relatively clearly visible.

On the other hand, in the anime style, information other than the face, such as hairstyle and clothing, is strong, so the impression of the original character tended to remain even after the swap.

While there are cases where anime materials can be used, I felt that live-action materials are more suitable if you want to show the changes before and after the swap clearly.

Points I liked after using it

It automatically detects multiple faces

Instead of specifying them one by one manually, it automatically finds the faces in the video, making the initial operation easy to understand.

You can choose everyone or just some

Even if multiple people are shown, you don't have to swap everyone at once.

Since you can select only some, you can adjust it according to the project or the purpose of the video.

Changes are easy to confirm in live-action style

In live-action footage where faces are close to the front and well-lit, it was relatively easy to grasp the difference before and after the swap.

Points of concern

Depending on the material, there were cases where the processing resulted in an error.

When trying multiple face swaps, it seems easier to check the results if you keep the following conditions in mind:

・Faces are clearly visible
・People are not overlapping
・Avoid extreme profiles
・Use bright footage

Keeping these conditions in mind will likely make it easier to verify the results.

In this test of VidMage AI's multi-face swap feature, I found that it automatically detects multiple faces and allows you to choose whether to swap all of them or just a select few.

In live-action style videos, the differences before and after the swap were relatively clear, making it easy to verify the characteristics of the multi-face swap.

On the other hand, with anime-style videos, there were cases where the changes were harder to see or where the processing did not complete depending on the source material.
