A week after accidentally signing up for the 4,640 yen 'Cancellation Seminar' membership

▶︎Oh, I accidentally signed up...

I sometimes get this faint urge lately that I want to polish something I like, even if it doesn't go as far as taking a formal lesson.
Maybe it's because it's spring.

It's been two months since I started note, and the fact that writing has loosely become a part of my daily life might also be an influence.

That said, as someone currently on leave, I can't really afford too many expensive costs...
Since I managed to buy a paid note for the time being, I decided to take the plunge and join a membership.

Ever since I started using X (formerly Twitter) with this account, I've been following
Kuniaki Yamada's
membership called 'Atauru' and decided to sign up for it.

After looking at the Atauru plan on the membership introduction page, the words 'Cancellation Seminar' caught my eye.
I remembered Yamada-san talking about it on X (formerly Twitter) the other day, so I pressed the button just to take a peek, but somehow I ended up completing the registration.

Wow, 4,640 yen...

Feeling about 4.5 Shibasaburo Kitasatos flying away behind me, I was surprised by what I had done and felt a tingling heat in my body for a while.

Even though I was interested, I hadn't decided on any concrete goals or a direction for my note, and honestly, I didn't have the confidence to keep up with the assignments.

I thought I'd start by increasing the amount of input I get.
I had absolutely no intention of becoming a participant myself.

Maybe this is fate, too.

Personally, what I thought was wonderful after reading Kuniaki Yamada's writing was his philosophy:
"The content should be 100% what you want to write. In exchange, if you want people to see it or are interested in monetization, tidy up the area around your writing, even if it's just a little bit at a time." (my own summary).

This perspective was very encouraging for me, who is currently writing about things I like while feeling lost about how to approach note from here on out.

That's why I was able to take it positively as fate.

Fortunately, I still had about a month before returning to work, so I decided to join as a form of semi-reinstatement training, thinking if there was anything I could learn... even for me.

By the way, I also wanted to read the Atauru plan, so I signed up for that too afterwards 💸

My wallet has gotten thinner, but I'm satisfied because I can read a lot.

▶︎What should I do about my cancellation goal?

The Cancellation Seminar started from such a clumsy mistake.
Honestly, I haven't even thought of a milestone for 'canceling!' yet. I wondered what goal I should set...

Since I'm also not very good at the fluidity, posting, and usage of note and social media, I decided to list the following three points as a convenient goal for now.

[Goals I set]

・100 note followers
・Have 10 paid notes purchased (currently 2)
・Find a membership idea that even I could do.
👉I want to learn even a little bit of the craft so I can live alongside my writing.

After I finished writing my goal declaration following my self-introduction on the bulletin board, I held my head in my hands quite a bit.

I-I feel like I set such a grand goal... I wonder if I can even cancel now...?I'm doing the assignments at a leisurely pace while thinking that.

However, when I look at the self-introductions and goal declarations of other students, they are all diverse and rich, and it cheers me up to see that there are so many people learning to write for such various reasons.

There are all sorts of people, from those who seem high-level to me to those who seem to be at about the same level, and honestly, I felt a little relieved.

People who already have tens of thousands of followers on other social media, people with less experience on note than me, company employees, and freelancers.

It made me straighten my back a little, realizing that everyone has something they want to do with writing.

▶︎Once the actual assignments began

Currently, editing assignments are posted on the bulletin board about once a week. The core of this membership is to edit the notes of a designated participant from among the seminar members, focusing on aspects other than the content itself.

---Presumptuous as it may be, editing someone else's note.
At first, no, actually, I was quite nervous.

What if I couldn't think of anything at all?
What if the gap between me and everyone else was too wide?

Thinking this, I headed over to the note of the person I was assigned to edit. I looked at their creator page and read their article.

---It's interesting. It's really, really interesting.
Wow, I'm so surprised at how much my perspective and the things I discover change when I shift my consciousness...

And above all, it's fun!
It goes without saying, but the themes they convey are different from mine.
The things they want to deliver are different, too.
Their writing style is different.
The points on their creator page and self-introduction are different as well.

When I read notes, I tend to only read articles that align with my own interests, so it's hard to get to articles on other themes.
I think this is a privilege unique to this membership.

I read it on my smartphone, open my notepad, and jot down the parts I like and the parts where I felt a bit confused.
Because both I and the other person are here because we want to learn about notes, we can point out even the smallest things without feeling hesitant.

I hadn't really been conscious of it (I was too full of anxiety about whether I could pull it off myself), but maybe this framework is a huge discovery...

Thinking that, I thought the assignment would be over once I revised my editing notes into a form that was easy to read and understand and posted them on the bulletin board, but I was dead wrong.

▶︎Seeing and being seen, a lot, plenty

The fact that I (a participant) post an edit means that others are posting edits too (obviously).
The volume of text, the perspectives, the ways of writing and conveying information—all of it is diverse and leads to new learning.

The edits I wrote also get 'likes' and are evaluated.

Everyone is connected through notes.
It's an amazing thing.

There are people I followed because of this membership, and people who have followed me as well.

It's only been one week.
If I do this for a month, where will I end up?
I intend to enjoy the upcoming assignments without running out of steam.
I haven't felt this sense of being unable to wait for a lesson in a long time.

Thank you for reading this article to the end💐
I hope it provides some kind of insight for everyone.

I plan to write another report if my enthusiasm builds up again.
Thank you for your support❕

▶︎Comparison: Before the seminar vs. 1 week after

By the way, here is where I stood and where I am now.

Immediately after joining the cancellation seminar (when I was surprised by the registration)
April 12, 2025
・Number of followers
 ▷35 followers (following 48)
・Paid notes, number of sales
 ▷2 items
・Membership concept proposal
▷I'm not sure if I have anything worth selling on a monthly basis.

April 21, 2025 Current
・Number of followers
 ▶︎46 followers (following 54)
・Paid notes, number of sales
 ▶︎2 items (no change)
・Membership concept proposal
▶︎I'm taking various notes, but the perspective of 'would I want to join this?' is still difficult.

👉Achieving goals is quite difficult.
I can't say I've found a way to live alongside my writing, but I might have developed the habit of thinking, 'Is there anything I can write (that I want to write)?'

Thank you for reading this far!
